Can't we all just get along??

Published

Long time lurker, new time poster. It seems to me that there is a lot of anger and hate directed toward one another on these boards. My question is WHY? It feels like these boards are just a microcosm of how nurses are to each other in real life. Why are nurses so mean, caddy and rude to each other. Maybe this is the reason that although we clearly outnumber other healthcare professionals we can't ever get anything done, advance our profession...because we are too busy quabbling over meaningless BS and trying to put one another down. I know that this isn't everyone, and I have seen some great and supportive posts, but holy moly!

Newly returned to this site. I enjoy the free exchange of opinions here from intelligent, like-minded people. But I have to say I agree with Cal-Neva about how we nurses, generally speaking, can be rude and try to put each other down. There is much less of it than there was in the past, thank goodness, but I still witness it, in fact, I've seen recent info/articles about bullying in nursing (and other professions), and to some extent I used to be one.

Why is this? Speaking only for myself, I can say that sometimes I needed to make myself feel better by putting someone else down; sometimes I was stressed, hungry, tired, worried, had to go to the bathroom but couldn't, etc; sometimes I was just in a bad mood and had to pounce on other's weakness, I guess, but most of all I think I just didn't know how to really get along- it was more important to get stuff done than get along.

My bad, but I've moved on and now I try really hard to get along with everyone and give people the benefit of the doubt, so I like myself a whole lot better.

WOW! I've never heard of anyone admitting to being a bully before! I'm glad you're getting over it and liking yourself better.
