I have literally applied to jobs in NY, NJ, PA, CT, DC, MD, NH, CA, NC, SC, OH, VA, FL, AZ, and TX. NOTHING. What am I doing wrong???
When you apply for these jobs do you do them online or do you go in person? There is such a huge advantage when you not only go in person but when you speak to the HR recruiter before even turning the application in. Also, make sure you have your letters of recommendation, your college transcripts, resume, CPR certification, and your license. My HR person is amazing and I can stay in touch with her either by e-mail or calling her or her assistants. When you form a relationship with them they will take care of you. Good Luck to you!

Thank you very much for the advice! The few times I have gone in person, I can't get past the receptionist in HR. One hospital literally has 3 copies of my resume: from a job fair, online, and in person. And they say they are hiring new grads. And my credentials and everything are great, so I just don't get it. I am going to another job fair (3rd one) this week and I'm hoping I will get somewhere this time. This will be the first job fair where I actually have my RN license already, so I may be able to get farther this time. We shall see! Thanks again. :)
Where I live on the west coast there are hiring freezes for new grads..(i was just told this by a new hire I'm precepting, who said she lucked out in being one of the last through the door) apparently with census so low in so many places, they just don't have positions. But don't give up!! Eventually you'll find something!
Shinyblackcar, you are not the only one. I was a LPN for almost 5 years working med-surg, have excellent letters of recommendation, had my resume done professionally, and nada. Of course, I can't move because well, houses are not selling. I am narrowing my field choices of where to work though. I don't want to work med-surg anymore, it is just not my passion. I am looking to hospice or maybe LTC. Good luck.

Thanks, and good luck to you, too!
Shinyblackcar, you might as well be my doppelganger. Applied to several hospitals all over north Jersey; I'm licensed as of October (RN), resume's good, reference letters from my clinical nursing instructors, background check is clean, and nothing. Zip. The only thing I could think of that might be holding me back is that I have no previous employment history (I just turned 20, if your wondering).
I applied to some facilities online, a few in person. I don't get it. I'm thinking of resubmiting all of my applications in person.
From what I've been told, there had been a few hospitals that closed down in my area. And its possible that the current state of the economy could be having an immediate effect here.
I sent an application of reciprocity to NY to practice there and it might as well be my last hope at the moment.
Any advice would be great. Thanks. Keep us updated, Shiny!
I know in the city NYC they scoop up new nurses hell GN's are getting hired there, hop skip and jump from NJ
