Cant Find LVN Job

Published

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to know if I am the only LVN in San Diego that can't find a job. I've only gotten 2 interviews in the 2 months that I have been working. I have revamped my resume and had it looked over so its not the resume...and I just had the interview last week with a Dermatology office that was a mix of retaking the NCLEX and going through an interrogation all in one day. However, it was all the way in Encinitias. They said they will call but we will see.......

I've heard rumors about hiring freezes and all that but my biggest hurdle seems to be that almost all jobs require 2 or more years of experience. I graduated in March of this year from a Virginia School moved here in June and didn't get my licensed completely transfered until August. I worked as a Nursing Care Partner in VA which is a step below an LVN but above a CNA....however it doesn't matter since I didn't hold the title of LVN for a year.

I am at my wits end...I have tried everything I can think of but there are no new jobs that I can find on the web or in newpapers, I've even gone to nursing homes and such to drop off resumes but no one had the time to talk...and I dont really know anyone to network with though I did meet another nurse at a craft show and she took my info for her unit.....any suggestions would be great. Price of living here in CA is so expensive that if I dont find a job soon things are going to get very tight....so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated or just to know Im not the only one having this issue.

Thanks for reading my whining

You're definitely not the only LVN new grad who is struggling to find work in Southern California. Click on the links to read the threads below. Plenty of sad stories are surfacing.

LVN JOB HUNTERS

Thanks for sharing the links with me. However, instead of making me feel better as I thought it would to realize I am not the only one having issues it makes me want to jump off the nearest building. I am trying with everything that I am to keep my hopes up and keep trucking but one cannot help but get discouraged with the situation.

Again thanks for the info and for the rest of you LVN's that are trying to find jobs right along with me GOOD LUCK! I have a feeling we are all going to need it.

Our military family are scheduled to come to San Diego from VA also, I too was a NCP prior becoming an LPN, Graduated June 2009. How long was the licensing process in CA?

Will take roughly 8-10 weeks. It will be longer if you miss a document or wait to get your fingerprints done via live scan. Its an expensive process (about 400) to transfer but relatively painless if you follow the instructions on the web. Make sure to get all your records from Occupational Health as well because you are going to need them when trying to get a job.

Only job I have been able to find out here as a "new grad" has been working temp for the flu clinics and that will only last until March or so and the work is alittle sporadic atm with the shortage of vaccines.

There are more nurses out here than jobs. The other problems I am finding are they (EVERYONE) wants you to have 1-3yrs experience and refuse to realize that you can't get experience if no one hires but alas so goes life. If all else fails I can work as a CNA.....will be a nice slap in the face but it is an option.
