Can't find a job!

Published

Hello all. I graduated in August... passed boards on my 2nd try and became licensed RN in December. After about a hundred applications at many hospitals, I have only recieved one interview. That interview came and went in early February. It seemed to go very well, and I followed up with a thank you letter and a couple phonecalls to show my interest.... but no news ever came of it. I think I only really got an interview at all b/c a friend of the family works on that floor and brought my name to the surface. Everytime I apply for a job I seem to get automated rejection letters via email saying they are pursuing other candidates at this time. If i don't get an immediate rejection letter, I follow up with a call... but I always get some sort of runaround. I have had no luck whatsoever and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I only have my BLS, but have scheduled my ACLS for April in hopes that it will help me land a job. Anyone know somewhere hiring in the Jacksonville area?? I am more than willing to move, preferably not too far, maybe the orlando/daytona area?? All in all it has been extremely frustrating/depressing. Im trying to remain patient/hopeful... I am just very eager get the show on the road :)

have you looked into LTC?

have you looked into LTC?

Not yet. I would be open to trying that, just to get some sort of experience. I've just been told to be careful when it comes to what LTC job I take.

Specializes in Cardiac.

I've heard Florida is pretty bleak in the job market these days, worse so then everyone else.Have you looked into Nurse Residencies? I think that a great way to go..I wish I had. They are only for new grads or New RN"s with less than 6months.

Specializes in ED.

Check out Florida Hospital or Orlando regional. my friend just got hired at Dr. philips and she graduated in August also

I am a new grad starting my first job. I focused on showing them I had the basics in my application. Nothing pretentious. No ACLS when I have no experience of even seeing actual arrests to match it. I just focused on demonstrating I can put together a good plan of care, evaluate it and administer meds safely. Just the basic ward RN role. An understanding of legal and ethical issues and a passion about the field.

If they want you to have all the advanced stuff they should train you as you go. You don't have to be a perfect nurse to get a job, or be able to manage the most critical unstable patient. You do have the have to interpret changes from baseline vital signs and know when to get someone who can - eg. doctor.
