As many of you know I have had some issues with my job, really since it started. Things like no training, management without a clue, and co-workers who were jumping ship were main points of interest.
My manager got sick and took a leave of absence for a while, and while i would not wish illness on anyone, the peace and quiet while she was gone was unbelieveable. She's back now, and all I can say is, whoa, Nellie!
The BS started the morning she got back. Thank God I had my cell on vibrate. I was scheduled to work 8am -4pm. I got to work at 10 till 8 (occupational health, no report), and pulled my cell out of my purse to turn it off. I saw 2 voicemails and checked them. Both were from her, one at 6:04, which said "You're on the schedule, you're not here, just wondering if you're OK." which was fine, except that the next one was at 6:07, and went, "I see you're not scheduled till 8, don't know what THAT'S about, but sorry if I woke you up." In other words, if she did not get me woken up the 1st time, she'd try it again for good measure. Thankfully, I KNEW what time I worked.
On and on it goes, and today I reached my breaking point. Two days ago, an employee was injured. I filled out papers and sent him over to see the doctor at the next building (several building in our plant). I put the info in the computer, and wrote down the things that I would need for the chart, to be written on it later, as it had gone with the employee. The chart did not come back before I left that day. I called the supervisor and the safety man and reported the accident and all progress until the employee returned.
Fast forward to today, as soon as I hit the door, this older nurse, (who I try to be nice to, cause she covered for me when I got sick last month) started in on me. She had this chart out, which made no sense, since it had nothing to do with her. "Did you put this in the computer?"
I said that I did.
"I can't find it. You don't have an accident number on here, either" (that was part of the info that was written down to be put on the chart when I got it back).
I explained that I had not had the chart with me while I was inputting the info, and that I had the info written on a Post-it. It was stuck at eye-level on her desk, in fact. She just kept on. I finally grabbed the Post-it and smacked it on the chart ( I was getting ill by now)
"See, it has an accident number now."
"Well, you didn't pull the carbons and distribute them."
(Remember when I said that I DID NOT HAVE THE CHART???????)
Then my supervisor called. Seems I forgot to write the acciden on the daily sheet. This I will admit, I forgot. She claimed that no one knew the man was hurt. Well, they did, because I spoke to the supervisor in person and I watched the safety man write the accident down on HIS paper.
This is just bull. If anyone knows of anyone hiring in the North Alabama area, that could work with a grad student, please let me know. and thank you for letting me vent.
Just BTW, was I being unreasonable?

Absolutely not. What you did was justified and people make mistakes. No one is perfect last I checked. I use to allow others to make me mad and I would cry for hours and hours. When someone knows that they can intimidate you, they will continue to do so until you put an end to it and it's about time you did. They may see that you are an awesome nurse and they are intimidated by you. Good luck!!

Wow. Were they trying to tell you so that you would learn by it or were they degrading you like you were an idiot.
New nurse and new job.....that's all you did and you realize it. You sound like a keeper to me. Maybe that's why they had the position. And if they have no patience and are wicked then they shouldn't hire a new grad. Save the new grad the headache and heartache and themselves from whatever their problem is.
I think that would be a nice new topic. Things you would like to say to your boss but can't.
Hang in there. Put your tough skin on when you go to work.
OK, maybe I was not too clear...I have been a nurse six years, Have been here since September. When I said grad student, I meant grad school, I'll be an NP in December. Sorry about the confusion.
I have never done occupational before now. They know that. I forgot one thing. Whoop-de-do! I saw the boss's pet shred a injury report last week so that she would not have to put it in the computer. Was anything said to her? Nope!!
With regard to how it was said, it just seemed like she was not going to stop until she could find something that I did wrong, I put it in the computer, so that was out. There was a case number, so that was out. The carbons were not pulled, yes, because I had not had the chart to pull them, it was in another BUILDING. I finally lost it and told her that I had not mastered the art of telekinesis yet, and that if she thought she could do so much better, she was welcome to try, and I wanted to watch to see if I could learn something.
Might not have been professional, but it had the desired effect.
