Can't decide on pre reqs to decide, asking for your input

Published

Hello aLL! I am at the beginning of my pre reqs, I am starting Anatomy and Chem 60 (introduction to general

chemistry) at West L.A. and wondering if I should be taking Biology instead? It seems like most of the CC's

here need the same thing, Anatomy, Physiology, Micro & English 1. Some also require Speech, Psych 1 . Some

schools need Bio and anatomy to take Microbiology or Physiolgy. Most others need Anatomy and Chemistry. Seems

like most do. Is transferring your credit from school to school easy if you have to show them you already completed your pre req so you can jump right in at the semester, have any others jumped around schools to do

their pre req?

Hello:

I started with A&P I and II. As you've noticed every nursing school has a slightly different set of prereqs. It isn't possible for me to prepare to apply to all schools so I picked two and structured my prenursing schedule around those. I use different CC's in my state if they offer a course that I'm looking for and am taking one course at a private school in a far away state. So yes you can shop around to find the courses that work for u and fit your schedule, etc.

Specializes in Maternity.

yes you can. i have gone to 2 different cc's to take pre-req's. the nursing program i am trying to get into requires classes that aren't all found at one location.

Thanks... Is Chem and Anatomy good to take to start off or should I be doing

Bio 3 ? I plan to take Micro and Phsyio in summer . Either at El Camino, SMC,

or the other CC/s

HI La mama,

Some cc requires you take Bio3 first before you can take Anatomy. I am attending LAVC and have inquired in other Los Angeles area cc, and if I am not mistaken, all cc have Bio3 as a pre-req for Anatomy.

I have talked to academic advisor from PCC, GCC, Pierce, & LAVC, so if you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

Good luck

LAVC requires Bio3 before Anatomy. You should check into this now before class starts so that you don't get dropped from the course and be at a disadvantage for signing up for Bio. I think all of the LA comm colleges have the same prerequisite requirements. You should carefully read the course requirements in the schedule before you register to prevent this problem in the future.

Hi Caliotter 3,

Yeah, all los angeles cc requires Bio3 or other college equivalent for you to enroll in Anatomy, and some actually requires you take Anatomy first before you can enroll on Physiology. I have all PCC, GCC, LAVC and Pierce college spring schedule book and have spoken to academic adviser from nursing dept. from all 4 cc.

And you are correct, almost all of them have the same pre-reqs for the nursing program, with the exception of some cc added speech as pre-reqs instead of core.

Thanks.

Well most of the Anatomy classes I found, West L.A., El Camino, Santa Monica

don't require biology 3 for Anatomy but for Physio or Micro. So they require

Anatomy and either Chem or Bio, ...

Hi La mama,

Out of the 3 cc you mentioned above, only West L.A. is part of the 9 LACCD. I heard Santa Monica is a really good cc but the traffic will kill it for me.

The advisers that I have spoken to mentioned that most Anatomy, Physiology & micro classes will require or recommend taking Biology3 or any college equivalent to ensure students have some knowledge of college level science.

**about the credit transfer, all I know is that if you are taking pre-reqs from any of the 9 campuses under LACCD, your counselor will have access to all the classes you are taking since you will be using the same student number I.D. and transferring credit is really easy.

Hope this helps.
