I have 2 offers for travel positions, one for Banner Good Sam on the Ortho/Neuro, med-surg unit, and the other on a med-surg/oncology unit at Banner Thunderbird. I have never been to either of these facilities. I am wondering what to choose. Help. Any insight would be most appreciated.
Thanks

I can vouch for Good Sam. Spent block 3 there and everywhere they sent us, the folks were friendly, helpful and seemed to enjoy working there. If I lived closer to Good Sam, I'd consider a position there.

Good Sam is a large teaching hospital in the downtown phoenix area; thunderbird is a community hospital in a suburb of phoenix called glendale, smaller hospital than good sam but still a good hospital. Both are good hospitals, which kind of nursing do you want? Do a assignment at both places if you want to stay in Phoenix for awhile.
I have had experience with a level 1 trauma teaching hospital as well as a level 2 hospital. I am most concerned about the drive and safety. Both facilities are about the same distance from where I will be staying but I have heard that the traffic will be crazier going to downtown phoenix vs Glendale? I am leaning more towards the Glendale campus only because this is my 1st travel assignment and the pts won't be quite as sick as in Phoenix but I don't know. These are just some of the concerns swirling around my brain!

Banner Thunderbird is in a decent part of town. But, the question is...where will you be lving? I would say most people that work at a particular hosp. dont live neat that hosp. Im not a nurse so I know NOTHING about working at either. But, I did have my last baby at Thunderbird and I loved it there! I don't know how important that info would be to anybody though.....Smile! My friend and neighbor works at Good Sam and loves it.

I am not a nurse but I have done clinicals at the Banner T-bird Oncology unit. For some reason, right now on their website, their are tons of positions. Kinda makes you wonder what is going on there...:uhoh21: It was one of the busiest floors I have ever seen but maybe that is because it is oncology and everyone is nauseous, in pain, and on chemo?? One of the most complex floors I have seen as well, aside from ICU. I was actually considering starting there but I am not sure yet. There is one really boisterous unit secretary there, that is about all I know. It seemed like many nurses on that floor were cranky but that also could have been cuz we were annoying students.
Tbird is growing so fast, it's incredible. They are busting at the seams and expanding everywhere. They are expanding the ER and trying to become a Level 1 trauma center. You definitly would have job security there. Good Luck, sorry I couldn't help more!!
