My husbands family lives in SC, so we will be moving as soon as kids are out of school for the summer(I plan on leaving in Feb, ahead of them to look for work). I've done some online job searches in the Charleston area and there seems to be a good bit available. I have the paperwork to apply for endorsement to gain my SC nursing license, I'm an LPN. One hiccup is that i have to be a resident of SC first before I can apply for endorsement. I may can overcome that, my question is when I gain a SC license, what becomes of my FL license? Does it go away? Will I always be licensed in FL and required to pay my fee every 2yrs? I have looked into the Navy Nurse Corps, Nurse Candidate Program, but the recruiter told me the program was full for this year AND next! Ugh! I have got to find a job. Agency is not calling with any availabilities. SC looks like my last option.

go to www.ncsbn.org to find out which states are COMPACT states. This means you can hold a license in one and work in the other but you do have to declare which is your current legal residence. Your SC employer will be able to give more details, but usually it is a matter of paperwork before and after you are hired. My employer did all the work for me when I moved from TN to TX. Just ask the nurse recruiter or whomever you talk to in HR

Thanks for your fast reply. I see that SC is a compact state, but FL is not. My license state is FL.

you will need to obtain your license in SC as FL is not part of the compact, and because it is not part you FL licence, or you can put FL on the inactive list if you will not be using it. i live in the myrtle beach area and there are not many nursing jobs here,,,perhaps charleston might be better.

best of luck!!!
