Hi,
I'm currently in my second year (out of 3). I'll be licensed by Dec 2015. I want to get a temporary working Visa to go to NZ for a couple of years. I know that Nursing Council of New Zealand requires 2 years of experience totaling 2500 hours.
Anyone know if it's still possible to apply within 2 years as long as those 2500 hours are completed? I can't wait to get out of here!
Has anyone gone through the process of applying to NZ? Do you know how long it takes to get a reply from them?
What are the job prospects like New Zealand for RNs? I'll be living on my own so is the cost of living affordable?
Any pertinent replies welcome!
Thank you!

The 2,500 hours are practise as a Registered Nurse, not sure, what you mean, clinical practice as a student is not considered. Jobs prospects are poor in NZ, like the pay, compared to Australia, for most nurses, even more so for relatively new graduates. Cost of living is considered by the rest of the world as high in both New Zealand and Australia.

NZ looks sweet but I wouldn't expect to move there and off the bat, get a job. You do need the exp to be able to sell yourself as a good candidate. And she's right expect less pay and less jobs. I've considered moving there, maybe later on.
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Don't worry I know those 2 500 hours are as a registered nurse, not as a student. What I wanted to know is whether it is still okay if they are completed within a year? I do intend to get experience here.
My univeristy also allows us to do a clinical internship abroad for our last semester so I might do it in NZ to get a feel of it before I move. I just wanted to get an idea regarding the job market.
Do you know any friends in New Zealand? Do they know in which areas there better chances?
I've visited New Zealand shortly before so I do know some parts. I was thinking more Auckland or Wellington. I might even consider the Otago area if there isn't any luck in the North Island. I just want to get away for a little while and get some experience out of Canada.
As long as I can manage my expenses and have a little bit of money to spare to travel I'm not too fussed about money, it's just a relatively stable job that I want.
Well thats an interesting question I don't know if its an "and/or" stipulation... Be sure to let us know what you find out. I'd assume both Wellington and or auckland work be best bet for a job they both are nice cities I've been to both and some of the South Island as well... Its a nice country laid back but I would deffinetly take advantage of your study abroad, that's sweet, just to see what its like and possibly obtain a lead on a job for after. I'm planning on going to australia first and I believe its easier to transfer from there to NZ.
Yup, will do! Where are you from? Can you tell me briefly what Australia requirements are?
