Canadian RN

Does anyone know what the requirements are for a newly graduated RN from ontario canada to work in Michigan? Such as minimum hours of experience, visa ' s, employer sponsorship...etc.thx.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Look up TN visa (the nafta visa) BSN minimum, assuming the candidate is a Canadian citizen or PR. . Need to meet the educational and credential requirements of the MI BoN for licensing by examination as an internationally educated nurse ( criteria is listed on the MI BoN website), pass the background check & NCLEX-RN

I believe you also need a VSC ( visa screen certificate) for a TN visa from CGFNS.

Secure an employer (those experienced or specialty trained are generally more successful than those with a year or less experience ). The employer issues a letter outlining the employment offer. If I recall correctly you apply for the TN visa at the border.

If you are a citizen/PR you don't need visa sponsorship for a TN visa just a bona fide employment offer

Specializes in Postpartum, Mother/Baby, Comm. Health, Geriatric.

It can't be hard at all, because there are alot of Canadian nurses that work at my hospital, but I know some of them did attend Wayne State University. Call around to a few potential employers.

The best idea is to contact the nursing board in that state. They will be able to accurately outline all of the requirements that are necessary for you to work in that particular state. The process isn't too complex, but will likely involve have your educational and practical experiences assessed. After you are assessed and deemed eligible by the nursing board, you will have to book your nclex and pass it if you haven't already done so. It should be relatively easy as bronze said. Good luck and god bless!

Thanks a lot to all if you, this has helped me out a lot.
