Please check out the Canadian Nurses Association for courses that you can take pertaining to psychiatric nursing. They offer lots of courses and examinations that will give you a CNA certification in your specialty. I'm not sure if they have one in mental health but I'm sure they do. In terms of becoming a nurse practitioner the CNA lists courses that are offered to achieve this designation and links to these universities. Please check them out here Canadian Nurses Association

If you pass your nclex in the States, will this be permitted as proof required for Australia. Im not sure and haven't looked into it too much, but working as a nurse in Australia has always appealed to me. Please let me know if you know the answer otherwise I will call the board of nursing next week

you will also have to have your educational and clinical work experiences assessed by the provincial colleges as well. There are varying requirements in terms of the number of hours required for safe practice. The best thing is to determine where you want to work and apply for assessment by the college or state board.

I think the bottom line is to go where ever you have been accepted. All the schools are accredited and will give you the same quality of education. You want to be an RPN and if you are able to complete your goal sooner, why not right?

My cousin works in Chilliwack and is from Toronto. She too has told me that there isn't too much going on there, but seems to like because shes big into outdoor sports and camping. If you have a job lined up I would go for it because the job market is tough and hard to predict. You'll further develop your working experience and will broaden your horizons. In the interim apply everywhere else.

I think you really need to break up your studying based on the number of days you have left until the exam. Break them down according to system and stick with your schedule. Incorporate 50 questions a day that you intend on answering and study the rationales and where you went wrong. The most important thing though is to not place all the emphasis on your patho and clinical knowledge and address the psycho social aspect of nursing in Canada. You will be successful if you cover your bases. The comments in this section are great and I have heard great things about the Primed course that is offered at U of T

Critical thinking questions were difficult for me too. Circling key words really help put things into perspective and sometimes clarified exactly what the questions were asking. I found that I would over think things too much and look into things too in depth when the answer was sometimes obvious. Also go onto the CNO website and do the practice modules. They are on things that are relatively simple, but are worthwhile and relevant to working as a nurse in Ontario. The bottom line though is to practice everyday until the exam. Take it from someone who has failed before, you really need to study hard and you will succeed.

I took a class at TSON, as well as one offered at Ryerson where I went to school and felt it really helped me. The instructors are RNs and all work in clinical practice which really helps because of all the practical clinical examples. The only thing I regret is that I didn't take it right away before I failed. A couple of my friends took both courses and they all passed, which is why I decided that I needed some help with my studying. I found it to be helpful and it helped me feel more confident to write it after failing it twice before. Mock exams are on the last day and they do have online tests you can do to. That said, if you want a course that is shorter, there is also the Primed two day preparation course. Although I didn't take it lots of my friends did and they all said it was helpful in assessing what areas you're weak in. Not sure about the pass guarantee for TSON because I was too focused on passin! Remember you have to fail to get it back and that really wasn't an option for me. That all said, take it from someone who failed before, if you're taking the October exam I would highly suggest that you quit your full time job and start studying on a daily basis. I failed my first two attempts because I was working full time too in the hospital I did my consolidation in and didn't spend enough time studying. I would also buy a lippincotts or another question guide and practice questions on a daily basis to help with your comprehension. Study the answers to see where you went wrong and this will help you when you do your patho refresher. Study 5 hours a day and you should be good. Again I highly recommend that you quit your job if you can and put all your effort into passing the CRNE. IF you can't for financial reasons then please be organized and study on a daily basis. The best idea is to contact the nursing board in that state. They will be able to accurately outline all of the requirements that are necessary for you to work in that particular state. The process isn't too complex, but will likely involve have your educational and practical experiences assessed. After you are assessed and deemed eligible by the nursing board, you will have to book your nclex and pass it if you haven't already done so. It should be relatively easy as bronze said.
