Hi. A short back story.
I graduated from
the RN program in Ontario on May 2014. That was the last year to write the CRNE (Canadian Registered Nurse Examination) before the NCLEX was implemented in Canada in Jan '15.
My BON didn't receive my first application to write the exam so I had to wait til Oct '14, which I didn't end up writing.
I first wrote the NCLEX in Spring 2015 to see what the exam was like, I failed which was a risk I was willing to take. 252 questions the exam shut off.
I booked myself for January 2016 for my second attempt.
I bought Saunders comprehensive review to review nursing content as I've been out of school for awhile as well as 300 NCLEX meds and that was it. I went in and the exam shut off at 110 questions with mostly priotitization/some SATA/infection control questions. I came out feeling a bit better about it and to find out I failed 4 days later was maddening.
my biggest problem I find is I don't know how to think the *Nclex* way, how to answer the questions, because we weren't taught in school for the NCLEX but for the CRNE. I'm so frustrated. I'm thinking of enrolling in the NCLEX-RN review program at Toronto School of Health to help me change how I study and how to approach the NCLEX.
Any other Canadian educated RNs who wrote the NCLEX (or successful NCLEX writers) feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Look into STAT Nursing Consultants, they have a rep that comes to my school to prepare us for nclex every year. They'll sit with you in person and help you find out where your testing weakness is! Really great people and program, I know they have locations in Canada as well! Best of luck! STATNursing.org * STAT Nursing Consultants

I'm a nurse in the USA, so I can't imagine what it must be like trying to take the NCLEX now. If you struggled with prioritization questions I really recommend the book Prioritization and Delegation by La Charity. It also has whole chapters on things like safety and lots of SATA questions. Good luck!

Kaplan - they have it down to a science - and several of the questions had on the NCLEX were verbatim some of the questions I had in the Kaplan practice and qbank tests.

Hi there! I am a Canadian trained RN and wrote the nclex this January as well. I originally wrote the CRNE here in Canada, but want to obtain a Florida Board RN licence.
I used the Kaplan Premier Study book, the Barron flash cards and I downloaded the RN Mastery App and an app called RN Crush to practice and review questions. I also spent time reviewing medications, lab values and areas that I am weak in (I work in labour and delivery so I'm quite rusty when it comes to general med-surg topics)
I did pass the NCLEX in 85 questions
I know it can be discouraging but it is possible to pass the NCLEX as a Canadian trained nurse, hopefully you will find some of the suggested study aides helpful.
Good Luck to you!
