Is this for immigration purposes??
The only police records check I've ever had to do for employment didn't involve prints but was more of a background/record check.

My husband just did a criminal record check for a new job. There was a mark on it so they needed the finger print check to see just what the charge was.

I did criminal check for both Nova Scotia college and employer and didn't require fingerprints. You could ask at local police station in the UK in regards to someone doing fingerprints for you

Scotland Yard and Interpol are both accepted sources of criminal records checks and fingerprints checks for those in the UK.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is Scotland Yard & Interpool? Would they be equivalent to the FBI or CIA in the US?

CNO has just issued a clarification about hte criminal records check. It's either-or, not both, unless one is applying for "vulnerable sector" work. This is the link: http://www.cno.org/en/news/2011/03/criminal-record-checks-a-clarification/
