Canadian Nurse ?Deficiency on Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Psychiatrics Clinical Hours

Hi Everyone.

I finally received my Visa Screen Certificate (4months with delay), Thank Goodness.

However, I am facing new problem since Maine BON wanted my Undergraduate School to clarify I had clinical hours on Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Psychiatrics. Although, these courseworks were integrated into my theory classeses. I am a Practical Nurse who upgraded into RN (Ontario).

Previously, my Undergraduate School put N/A on those clinical hours since some courses were taken on my Practical Nurse program. I went to 3 schools. 1 for PN, 1 for Bridging, 1 for Undergraduate BSN. It is kinda confusing if you are not familiar with the program.

I had clinical on Psychiatrics during my Bridging program. However, what does constitute clinical hours? Question mark for Obstetrics & Pediatrics though. Maine State insisted my Undergraduate School to clarify these since I finished the RN program with them.

* I have not seen any posting other Canadian Nurse with this issue. Although, other international nurses posted these deficiencies and courses were available in some schools.

* It sucks if I needed to go back to school to complete these courses. I might just work here in Canada or try another State. A colleague is recommending to get New York nursing license.

Any recommendations are needed.

Generally if one state has issues others may have the same issues. Clinical hours usually require you to spend time in that area as a student learning

Did you have your PN and bridging program evaluated as well? Or just your BSN portion? What did the visa screen come back as? Comparable but deficient? It seems ridiculous that your education is enough to do the NCLEX yet you haven’t had clinical in those areas.

I just received my CGFNS - Visa Screen Certificate & it is comparable.

But again, MS BON wanted clarification from my Undergraduate school. I contacted them and they are referring me to my PN & Bridging school. Will see about this ker·fuf·fle.

Hi everyone. Just to update.

August - I paid CGFNS eDAS - for whatever documents used for my Visa Screen to be sent to the BON. Whatever the BON decided, they moved on to ask about my SSN before giving me my RN license. Since I do not have an SSN, my employer wrote a letter that I forwarded to the BON. Will provide update.

Update:

November 2019 - After all the hurdles, the BON has released my license today.
