I'm a Canadian citizen, currently in my last semester of a 2 year associates RN in New York state. I am interested in working in Australia and I'm wondering what the job market is like there. I have heard there are alot of RN jobs and that there is a nursing shortage. I'm not to sure what the process is to get a visa and work as a nurse in australia. I have tried looking at a few websites but they do not have info on the process for foreign nurses. If anyone knows anything about this process or where to start, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm also wondering if I got my education in the U.S. would I have to be registered here or could I just take the nclex? If I have to be registered here it will be very difficult as I don't have a ssn and the only way to get ones is to work here and there are no jobs for new grads...

There are a few threads in the international forum regarding process for Australia and we do ask that any questions regarding work visa for Australia is asked in that forum. There are a few changes happening with the registration process in Australia so once you have completed your training you can check back and see what is happening. Currently information is on the state website for the state in Australia you plan on working in so may be worth checking that out. You will need to take and pass a English exam
