Help! Are there any recent (in the last year or three) Excelsior College grads from Canada? I am getting mixed messages from EC and others about writing the NCLEX etc. I would love to hear from anyone who has completed this process or could give me some much needed guidance.
Thanks!

HI :) Well, I hope you can get some favorable (to you) answers here. Sorry I cannot help you! I presume you've looked at the BC nurses...government website? I can;t remember where I came across it. Best wishes!

Im a Canadian from BC. Graduated from Excelsior With ASN on December 2003. Took the NCLEX for Mn in Washington state in Feb 2004. Endorsed into and moved to California to take my First RN job in Los Angeles March 2004 on a TN Visa.
I recently moved back to Vancouver after RNABC in a long process approved my application. The lack of Clinicals from excelsior was offset by my 2+ years of experience in California:)
I have now applied to take the Feb 2007 Canadian Boards.
Hope this clears up those mixed messages you got.

Any others? I am looking into Excelsior.. I graduate my LPN program April 2008 and want to start working on my RN ASAP. I think there are quite a few of my gen ed courses that will transfer over. I have psych 101, developmental psych, soc 1 and soc 2. I have others from a previous diploma in Medical Office Admin.
From what I gather it doesn't matter so much where you are from (ie. Canada) but rather, to which Board of Nursing you are applying for in the states, and what requirements THAT BoN has for Excelsior grads. The issue being, some states have special requirements of EC grads and Calif won't accept unless you were enrolled in EC prior to a certian date, and so on. Search the forums for more info on certain states.
Is your plan to become licensed in Canada? If so, I have heard from an EC student that B.C. will no longer accept Excelsior grads for their nursing boards. If this stands, you will not be able to become and RN in B.C. I don't know about the rest of Canada though!
So, the question you should clarify for responders is: Are you planning to apply to Canada or if the US, which state?
Have you called Excelsior to inquire? I always found them very helpful. Ask to speak to the state boards department... Best wishes.
TY.
I read on here someone went to EC and was the ontario board accepted. I live close to Buffalo so I could always work across the border. I have been busy with finals so i haven't had a chance to call them yet.
My lpn grad date isn't until April 2008 but I don't want to wait around. I want all my Gen ed requirements done for EC before i apply.
I called our boards here and they weren't much help. They say as long as the program meets certain topics etc. Its an individual basis. So they can't say yes or no.

You have to have visa screen certificate in your hand when applying for TN plus letter of employment.
yes, you are right, my question is : after i grad from EC LPN->RN program , can i got visa screen certificate.since they need clinical days in EC, but in this program it is 0 days clinical.
Hi learnec
http://cgfns.org/sections/programs/vs/
this is the link to CGFNS - they are the ones who give out the visa screen cert
You will have to pay an exorbitant amount with your application. You will also have successfully taken the NCLEX .
No they wont ask you about your clinicals. :)
hope this helps.

Well, NY will hire an Excelsior grad in a heartbeat.
You'll need bio and micro, college writing, MAYBE A&P (they didn't make me take it).
