Canada vs US medical system

Published

Hi everyone, hope that some of you out there may help. I am doing a research paper on the subject of Canada vs US medical systems. I am comparing the two and the pro's and con's of each. Any information and reliable websites would be a big help .

I would suggest you do a search on this bb. I got these threads up by typing "socialized healthcare" (it's my pet peeve term btw).

The BEST book on the subject I have ever seen is called "Universal health care: What the United States can learn from the Canadian experience". It's about 5 years old now, but does a very good job of cutting through the rhetoric associated with this debate. It discusses the pros and cons and is a really easy read. For only $10, you may want to invest in it or see if your school library will get you a copy

I did a similar research project (but involving more countries) several years ago in my undergraduate program. Although I don't know whether the same information is now available on-line, I do know that you can go to most decent university libraries and find published volumes of all the annual morbidity/mortality statistics of many different countries (inc. the US and Canada), as well as the percentage of GNP spent on healthcare within the country and lots of other interesting statistics related to healthcare.

Lots of people have different opinions and points of view about the different systems in different countries, but I find it useful and enlightening to compare hard numbers. Esp. if you are just getting into this topic, it can be hard to separate the "real" info from all the rhetoric and propaganda that is out there ...
