Canada???

What suzanne4 said is correct. But I am wondering, when you capitalize Native do you mean to say you are a member of a First Nation? I think there is dual-citizenship which allows for the same tuition as any other Canadian.

Oops! Sorry...I did not mean to capitalize native. I wasn't referring to First Nations. I was just referring to people that were born in Canada.

It sucks being American. Forgive my non-patriotic statement. I don't want any death threats from zealous Americans.

I know that when you apply to nursing schools in Canada you will be charged international or foreign student fees, which can be up to 3 times more. You also will have to be wait listed considering there are a lot of people entering into the nursing programs, but there are few seats in classes. Consider that if you are already in a nursing program and have completed a few years you may be able to bridge in. Hope this adds to what you have already.

i'm in my 4th year of a nursing degree in nova scotia - we have a girl from maine who has gone thru the whole program with me. she's great, involved in the nursing soceity and all the social stuff, as far as i know she had no more struggles than any of the rest of us! but yes, as far as i know canadians get preference for spots, and non-canadians get charged more. although i'm pretty sure there was some sort of legislation recently passed stating that international students could get on-campus jobs. or possibly off campus, can't remember for sure now. sorry. brain freeze. lol. good luck!

Don't worry about tution. Some Canadian schools give a discount rate to US students than to other international students. Just like some US schools give Canadians in-state tuition.

In fact, it is much easier since you a US citizen. Things will be much easier for you in Canada than somebody from another foreign country.

I'm wondering if any Canada Natives could help me. I am a US citizen, and have my 1st degree from the US. I would like to do my nursing Canada, but I assume Canadians get preference. Do any of you know any US citizens that went to nursing school in Canada? Did they do well? I'm kind of worried that because I'm a US citizen, I would be "looked down upon" (I won't lie - I am somewhat ashamed to admit I am American)....

Hello All,

So I am doing my second baccalaureate in nursing (my first is in Psych form UCLA). I am mostly applying to schools in the US, but I was also considering Canada. My worries, though are making me think twice: 1.) Would it be harder to gain acceptance as a US citizen? 2.) If my degree were form a Canadian school (i.e. Univ. British Columbia, U Toronto etc) would I be qualified to take the NCLEX here in the US?

Anybody know? Any help is always appreciated!!
