Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2018

World Canada CA Programs

Published

I'm applying to the second entry nursing program in February 2018 for Fall 2018 admission. I'm applying to York, Humber, Trent, Nipissing and potentially Western. I'll be applying with a BA in psych. This is probably super premature, but I wanted some reassurance from fellow applicants. I also wanted to know if anyone, past or previous applicants, know the weighting of Additional Information forms and how they're considered during the application process? I was diagnosed with ADHD during my second year of university, after being misdiagnosed two previous times, and it's certainly had an impact on my grades. My GPA is going to be something like 6.7 on a 9.0 scale. And this really has me worried. Has anyone else had any experiences with Add. Forms?

Good luck to all!

Hey! I'm in a similar boat to you Fall2018Nurse- gpa around 3.3 but a ton of relevant work and volunteer experience as well as strong references. I'm hopeful I will be able to get in to uoft's program!!

Hi everyone, I am also a 2018 Nursing applicant. I am originally from England but now live in Vancouver, have a BA degree in Criminology from Simon Fraser University, but now looking to take a second degree to pursue a career in Nursing (I know....quite the switch)!!! I recently applied to the University of Ottawa (Second Entry Program) and Queen's University (Advanced Standing Track). Ottawa's application system was quite straightforward. I applied to Queen's via OUAC as the online application system on the Queen's website did not give me the option to apply for Nursing. Just waiting for my application to be processed and for Queen's to let me know what the next steps are. I know that I have to submit a personal statement but don't have a student number yet. Any fellow applicants to these universities?

I take it you schooled in the UK? Did you have to do WES evaluation for your international credentials? Or you just sent your transcripts to the schools you applied to?

I am also from York, and planning on applying to Western, Trent, Humber/UNB, and Queens. My GPA from last 2 years is 7.93 on York's 9.0 scale, hopefully I could raise it up for this semester. I have zero volunteer/work experience.

Hi OptNurse, I did my secondary schooling in the UK, but did not need to have my credentials assessed by an external agency. The university worked my A-levels out as transfer credit. I just sent my post-secondary transcripts to the schools directly.

Ok. Thanks.

I just applied to Trent, McMaster and Western through OUAC. Waiting to hear the next steps from the schools. I've low GPA but loads of volunteer/work experience.

Fingers crossed i get into one.

Anyone preparing for Casper? What materials are you using to study?

I'm at a loss on how to prepare for it. Any leads?

I did the Casper earlier this year for UBC. It wasn't too bad. Just keep it relatively simple so you can express clear ideas in the short time-frame. The scenarios are very interesting to write about! In terms of preparation, I would say just make sure you can type fast on the day, and time yourself writing practice questions.

Thanks alot. I hope you got into UBC?

Hi everyone! I will be applying for 2nd Entry Nursing programs in Ontario for Fall 2018 admissions. I just need to complete the Human Anatomy and Microbiology prerequisites. Is anyone completing their prerequisites during Summer (May-Aug) 2018? I'm having difficulty enrolling in some courses at UofT so this might be an option for me. Hopefully it won't weaken my application. Also, is anyone completing their prerequisites at Athabasca? How's the experience been so far? Thanks! Good luck to all :)

For uot I am pretty sure you have to have the pre reqs done by end of june. You should double check!

From what I have heard it is highly unlikely you will get in with incomplete pre-reqs into the summer. U of T especially rejects pretty well everyone who doesn't complete them by the end of April (and even then gives preference to those with completed degrees and pre-reqs), so you should double check if there is really a point to applying if you don't have the pre-reqs done beforehand (it is a lot of money to shell out to be rejected for something you can avoid before!) Hope it all works out!
