Can you tell me more about Corona Regional Medical Center?

I will have an interview on Thursday. I am just curious what is the working environment and what is the whole hospital like in general? Thank you for your time!

Honestly, I applied and was hired for a position. But decided not to take it due to a variety of reasons. The hospital is very old, the equipment is very old. I took a tour of the ICU, where I would have been working, I saw call lights and alarms going off everywhere and most of the nurses were chitchatting. While I'm as social as the next butterfly, I also believe in good patient care. I could totally have seen myself working my butt off to no avail every shift. I also heard some red flags in the interview, "We are hoping to get some better doctors on board that are not so old-school soon" and "we currently do not do a lot of skills, such as arterial lines, but having someone like you would be a benefit when we do receive those patients." I did not want to lose my skills, and the environment seemed static. My impression could be wrong, but based on what I saw, that's how I felt, I ended up taking a job at a much different hospital that I love.

Of course, in this economy, most any job you can get is a good opportunity. :)

Thank you for your reply.

Your right! In this economy, its hard to get a job here in CA :( Im kinna desperate. If hired, I will probably (might) just stick to it until i get a better hospital to work at.

What hospitals here in IE would you recommend I target to get in? i applied everywhere. I applied in Riverside Community, KP fontana and ontario, Loma Linda...

I thought having at least 1 year experience will help me get a job, but i guessed wrong.

sorry, i'm just frustrated :p

thank you again :)

I heard some new hospitals are opening up towards murrieta temecula? those might be a good shot. If you are brave...Hoag Irvine (where I work) is hiring in the ER, they will consider you without ER experience. There's really a lot of hospitals, just most aren't hiring. You can try St. Bernardines, I used to work there, it's a good place to learn a lot and then move on. It does open a lot of doors. I would keep towards the bottom of the list Corona Regional and Hemet Valley, I've heard mixed things about Inland Valley Medical Center.

I live across the street from Hoag Irvine and dream about being able to walk to work :)

The County of Riverside posts some positions for new grads every once in a while. Give the recruiter a call.

Have you applied to the ER there? There is a lot of openings and they have hired people in the past who did not have ER experience, they just wanted them to have some experience. Honestly, it's the best nursing job I've ever had, short of a job as a state employee as an LVN, the benefits and time we automatically had off were fantastic.

I am a new graduate RN. I have no prior experience.

Hi NickiLaughs,

I'm a RN with 2 years experience in a Stepdown unit (cardiac subICU) at Cedars Sinai, LA. I would like to move to Irvine due to my husband's job and to raise a family (I'm 6 month pregnant). I'm looking to move some time next year (2013). I get paid very well here with excellent benefits. I'm making $48/hr night shift ($40/hr if day shift) with 7 shifts/pay period. I do not mind a pay cut if it's worth the experience :-) So, how do you like Hoag Irvine so far? How is the pay for RN's with 2 years experience? Any inputs will be greatly appreciated 'cause I know nobody working there at this point. Thanks!

You will be horrified at the pay cut...I would say at least an 6-8$/hr paycut. I made less on night shift than you would have on day shift where you are at. I actually left because they were calling me and everyone else off 1-2x a week. They've been busier this year I guess, but summers around the corner and that hospital tends to be dead in summer. I wish I had better news for you. The team was great and the people there are awesome, I was sad to leave. I'm actually doing case management now. Another good hospital is St. Joseph in Orange. The ICU there is pretty great and so are most of the people. The $ is a little better too. But orange county does pay nothing like LA. You can PM me if you have any other questions.

Thanks so much for the reply. I actually tried to PM you but your mailbox was full at the time :-) I didn't know you're no longer at Hoag. Glad you are happy where you are! I am very happy where I am: great coworkers, good managers, abundant OT opportunities, etc. However, LA is just too congested and air quality + traffic are horrible! Anyways, I'm looking at UCI, Hoag, and Kaiser and they all seem hard to get in....Do you think it is reasonable to get round $38-$40/hr with 2 year+ experience? Is it 72 hr/pay period? How is the medical coverage? If you don't want to share too much info here, you can PM me anytime! Or I can PM you if you want to streamline your mailbox :-) Thanks again!

Hi Nicki,

I take the Nclex this week and I've been applying to jobs at Hoag Irvine for months now. I've addressed my cover letter to nurse managers directly. What do you suggest I do? I really want to work in ER or ICU. I graduated with a bsn in September from Cal state LA with almost a 4.0. I have recommendations and did my preceptorship at St. Joe's ER. thanks!

As a heads up when I worked there people got cancelled for shifts frequently. I'm not sure if things have changed for the better. Maybe they're being pickier. I have no idea, this was over 4 years ago when I worked there. Why not go to St joes? It was a nice place to work. :). Especially if you already had a preceptorship anyway. Plus they pay more.
