If you have the study guide that ATI puts out, you should be able to take the practice exams that are included in the study guide. How well you do should really depend upon how well your educational foundation has been laid. If you've had a college level algebra course, general biology course, and an English Writing course (sufficient to graduate), you'll do fine if you've done well in those courses.
I would imagine that by the time someone's finished the typical prerequisite coursework to enter a Nursing program, that foundation should have been solidified. I did quite well on the TEAS, but don't compare yourself to me. I already have an extensive education, and this is my second time going through college. The questions you miss on the practice tests from the study guide should show you where you need improvement. Believe me, as well as I did, I still could have done better.
I only used the study guide and took the practice exams at the back of the book and I did very well. As akulahawk said, it is more based upon your previous knowledge that you have from your prior classes. The study guide and practice tests just give you a consolidated review, but are not the actual test. The actual test is not a rewording of any of their practice tests.
In addition you can go to the library and get a 'nursing school practice test' book. The TEAS study guide will help you with how the test is laid out, and the other books will help you with a review.
Good Luck with your exam.
