Can you take the TEAS before you apply to nursing school?

Published

Hi, I'm going to applying to nursing school this upcoming fall 2011 for the 2012 cohort. I'm spending time studying the TEAS V manual to refresh my memory, but I was wondering if I can take the TEAS Test BEFORE I apply to nursing school? Or do I have to apply to nursing school and then sign up to take the TEAS test?

Thanks!

It looks like a lot of people are applying for CSULA this year. Did they only offer microbiology spring this year? I know they did last year...

Looks like its going to be really competitive this year. If my summer crictical thinking class is an A (I had an A average before the final, but the final was pretty difficult) then I think I will be pretty competitive, if not, then the most points I will have is 23 and that is barely cut off. Last year and the year before, people with 22 points made it in. Every year it gets more competitive so who knows.

Be sure to check the CA nursing programs to see if anyone has made a CSULA thread yet. If not I will make one this October.

Are you applying to any other schools? Your stats are good enough to practically get in wherever you want but you can always apply to other schools, hopefully you have done a o chem class cause CSULA is the only cal state that doesnt take o chem like the other cal states.

At my school, you have to apply for the nursing program and then they ask you to sit for the teas. Not sure if you can take it before applying I imagine youcould since the teas is good for 2 years.

@BeachBedHead:

Don't lost faith, I am sure that with determination you will end up pulling through!! No, Micro is always offered Fall @ CSULA. At least this year they're offering it during fall -- so that you can get your grades in by march for your application. And yea, there are a lot of people applying this year and it gets competitive, but I'm sure if we all worked hard; we'll get what we've worked for.

And what did you mean by o chem? I took chem 151 @ CSULA which is the required chemistry class needed to fulfill the chemistry pre-req.

@Nurse2be: I think you are able to take the TEAS exam before you apply, I just called my school today and they confirmed it!

I think that's a inorganic chem. The other cal states need o chem as a pre req in case

Hey I also go to CSULA and I've taken chem 151. I've looked through assist.org to compare the prerequisites for nursing for CSULB and CSULA but I can't find the CSULA equivalent to CHEM 140 General, Organic, and Biochemistry (CSULB class).

I just found this website and it seems incredibly useful. Oh by the way I was told Micro 201 and 202 is only offered during the Fall 2011 at CSULA.

The school I applied to required that TEAS 5 after I applied. Starting this semester, the same school now requires the TEAS 5 as part of the application process. So it is entirely possible for the school to require the testing as part of, or after, the application process begins.

We had to. They never specified when to take it, just has to be done before you apply because it counts on your application!

Hello! I have a question about the CSULA nursing program. I am from PCC and I am looking into applying for the CSULA SON Fall 2012 cohort. I am going to be taking my Microbiology in Spring 2012, but it seems that the deadline for submission of microbiology grades is right after PCC's spring semester ends. Is the small gap going to be a problem? Or is there any way to maybe request an extension, considering the small gap between the end of the semester and the deadline for submission? I am new here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
