I have a 3.3 GPA at Lone Star and I am about to take the HESI soon. Do I have a chance applying to nursing schools and actually getting in? I am asking because I am experiencing major anxiety about the next couple of months applying for nursing schools.

Straight answer? Maybe, just depends.
Different schools in the Houston area look at different things; so it all depends on where you are applying. Here is what I know (having been admitted to 2 and waiting for final word on a 3rd).
ADN
Lonestar (Cy-Fair) - Admitted and turned down. They look at how many classes you have completed and one section of your HESI (GPA not counted as I understand). There is a score sheet available on the website here: Additional Nursing Program Requirements I would shoot for a 11.4+ from what I have heard; my score was 11.6+.
HCC - didn't apply. For better information on HCC, go to an information session as they require prospective students to attend one anyway. I didn't apply because I felt like they wanted to make me go through more hoops than BSN programs (and I have a BBA already).
BSN
TWU -Admitted, plan on attending Spring '13. They look at your TEAS V & pre-req GPA. They will give bonuses for previous bach degree, certain first attempt A's (4 possible), and if you did a certain # of hours at TWU Denton. Better information is available on the website.
UTHSC - Waiting. They want HESI A2 (more than LSC), pre-req GPA, Science GPA. I want to say they will also hold too many repeated courses against you (rumor).
The BSN programs in Houston can be VERY competitive. I have heard that over 400 applied for 100 spots at TWU and things where worse for UTHSC. Honestly, your GPA may be a little low, but I am not an adviser or admissions expert. My best advise is look at the individual programs and what they want. There are other discussions for each program in Houston, and if you read through them you can probably find good baseline stats for those that got admitted this go around. While not a perfect predictor, it should give you an idea where you are.
Also, if you plan on going ADN - BSN, know that those programs place a LOT of weight on your ADN grades. So I would plan on killing your ADN courses with as high of a GPA as you possibly could manage, just in case you want to complete your BSN later.
Finally here is my best advice - if you really want to do nursing, apply to as many programs as you can. Your chances are better with more applications, and you never know. I have seen a few people that didn't get first choices, but where happy that plan B or C worked out in the end.
Just my $.02. Feel free to PM if you have other questions.
