can someone who is in charge or hiring nurses message me?

Published

I don't want to put all my drama out there, I just have a question that I think can only be answered by someone who oversees the hiring of nurses. I have no criminal charges against me whatsoever. Can you tell me what kind of background checks are ran prior to hiring a nurse in a hospital setting ?

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

If you have nothing on your background then why be so concerned?

Specializes in Nurse Leader specializing in Labor & Delivery.

HR departments typically handle that, not nurse managers. It totally depends on the facility.

Specializes in PACU.

This is very facility - specific and you would need to contact the individual HR departments to get that info.

When I was younger, I previously worked as am aide an had an allegation of abuse/Neglect. No criminal charges were ever brought forth from it, I'm just concerned about something coming up later on down the line when I start to seek employment. I'm currently enrolled in a 1+1 program (first year lpn, second rn) so I won't be working for well over a year. As far as clinical sites, I've had no issues thusfar, even in LTC settings. This all happened in another state. I'm just terrified this is going to come back to bite me somehow.

If no charges were brought from it & nothing is on your record then you will be fine.

It is on my record as an aide, but not a criminal record. Legally, in the state that the incident occurred (I no longer live there) I can't be hired in a LTC setting as an aide. I've contacted every nursing board possible and no one has told me it would prevent me from working as a nurse. Just finished finals and I'm doing great in this program. It truly is my passion and I know I'm probably catastrophizing, I just keep thinking what IF. But, thank you. I feel much better now :)
