I have a Ph.D. in political science, and I am preparing for a career transition to become a nurse.
I know many second degree students enter into the Accelerated BSN program. However, coming from a different field, I would like to take my time learning nursing. I know I am not thriving in a fast-paced learning environment.
So, my question is: Is it possible for a second degree applicant to apply for a traditional BSN?
I am considering to enroll in a community college and transfer to traditional BSN program. Is it an option available for a second degree student like me?
Hi Helen, You mention a good point. You should reach out to a guidance counselor or someone from admissions from the schools you are applying to in order to determine which courses are transferable, if any, and what your best options would be. Sometimes courses have expiration dates, too. Volunteering in a hospital is also good thing to do, if you can, while applying to schools ?

Thank you all for your insights. From your conversation, I've gained valuable knowledge.
I don't mind retaking GE courses if necessary. In fact, I graduated from college a long time ago in a foreign country, so there's a possibility that I might need to retake all of them.
To me, it appears to be a matter of whether I should take these GE courses before starting the program (as prerequisites) or during the program (as part of it).
I was considering the traditional BSN because I have concerns about the fast-paced learning environment of the ABSN program.
