Can a second degree student apply for a Traditional BSN?
Hi Helen, You mention a good point. You should reach out to a guidance counselor or someone from admissions from the schools you are applying to in order to determine which courses are transferable, if any, and what your best options would be. Sometimes courses have expiration dates, too. Volunteering in a hospital is also good thing to do, if you can, while applying to schools ?

A BSN is a BSN whether accelerated or not. The same clinical and course requirements apply, it's just that some programs give you credit for work already completed and provide a compressed timeline. You still have "fluff" courses, which aren't fluff. The fluff courses, assuming you mean non-clinical courses, help you understand the system in which you work.

Can a second degree student apply for a Traditional BSN?
Hi Helen, You have my curiosity. There are many different options for someone like you and people enter nursing as a second career all the time, but I'm very curious why you want to join nursing after spending so much time getting a Ph.D. in political science? I imagine that degree is in high demand at the moment. With your Ph.D. you are at the top in your field and by joining nursing you will be at the very bottom again. Healthcare is extremely hierarchical. Do you know what specialty you are interested in? Nursing will likely be a culture shock for you if you haven't practiced in healthcare before. I was a second degree student when I started and several of my classmates either had doctorates or were well accomplished in other fields. The lack of respect, abuse and pure misogyny was a shock for me. Regardless of any other previous achievements or education, once you become a nurse be prepared to be treated like you are as dumb as dirt. The job itself can be wonderful. Caring for other humans can be very fulfilling, but there is a reason people are leaving in droves.

Your dream nursing job?
True, but change is possible though. Nurses are the largest workforce in healthcare. If more of us went out there and fought more for change in a broader since I think it would happen. I'm not talking about complaining to management about internal inadequacies...that does nothing. I mean really go out there in the world and do things like join city committees and commissions, run for public office, apply for leadership positions within and outside healthcare, join nursing special interest groups and think tanks. I really think it's possible. But if we give up and throw our hands up then, yes, nothing will change. And if nothing changes it's the patients who will suffer the most.

Your dream nursing job?
Yes. It's hard. What do you do? Do you feel like your efforts go unrecognized or do you feel like everything is just a constant battle...too few resources...not enough time?

Your dream nursing job?
Really? Just curious why? Thanks! Interesting. Nice to see someone enjoying their work . How did you get into medical device development?

Your dream nursing job?
If you're on this forum then it means that you haven't 100% given up on nursing yet. Maybe you're exhausted and looking for hope and alternatives or a place to vent. Burnout is everywhere across the country. Toxic work environments, unsafe patient ratios, unsafe practices, bullying, abuse , and not enough pay for the amount of damage being done to your body, mind, and soul. I want to want to know what's your dream nursing job and what are the barriers you're facing to get there? Do you need more experience or education to get that job? Are you actually unsure what your dream job is? Is nursing not what you expected? Do you feel completely unprepared as a new grad? Are you having difficulties finding that job? I'd love to hear your thoughts. I hope you all are well ❤️?
