Can a scrub do that?!

Can a scrub use scissors to cut a hole for their thumbs in the cuff of their gown after they have scrubbed in?

Is it a sterile scissors? What do they do with the scissors afterwards?

I don't know if there's an official stance on the practice. However, the cuff is considered unsterile once the hand has passed through it. As long as the glove completely covers the cuff as it would otherwise, I don't know that there would be an issue.

The big issue would be the scissors remaining on the field and are they able to sterilely glove themselves.

Rosequeen- the person just scrubbed in and used sterile scissors (handling scissors through the gown) to cut the hole. Then the sterile gloves were put on and the scissors were put back on the sterile field.

Then the field is contaminated. As a good practice the scrub should to do that even if the hand the scissors off after.

Sounds contaminated.

Why did she do that?

I thought the same thing. I have no idea why that person did it.

That's what I thought.
