Can RN's Work as PCT's?

It's now been 10 months since my graduation from nursing school in DC, and I'm still looking for my first RN job. And I'm really frustrated. Despite my 2nd degree BSN and good GPA, I'm concerned that I may not be getting hired because of my age (I'm a guy, over age 50). It's maddening that I passed the NCLEX in 70 questions, but can't get a job as an RN.

So I was wondering if I could apply for a job as a Patient Care Tech (PCT), or LPN or CNA, to start. ANYTHING to just get that first direct patient care job under my belt. Is an RN working at a lower licensure level allowed in Maryland?

If not, I'd be open to other advice: any LTC or hospice facilities in the VA/DC/MD vicinity that will hire new grads?

Thanks!

When I went to a career fair last fall, a representative from Genesis Healthcare told me that they were interested in hiring more RNs as opposed to LPNs. Check them out..there's a ton of their facilities in the area. Also, there is a career fair April 4th at Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Md sponsored by nurse.com. There will be a lot of hospital systems, nursing homes, home health agencies, etc in attendance. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback, Kimberly! I'll be sure to check them out.
