Can you recommend a good accel BSN nursing program in California?

Published

Hi,

I will have my BA soon in a non science major (end of 08). I decide Nursing is going to be my career. I think I have to take some more science classes to meet the pre reqs since I didn't take those yet. Probably in the Spring of 09 I will take the rest of the pre reqs to meet the requirement. My question is: I want to start the accel nursing program in the Fall of 09...is this do-able? Do you know of any schools that I can apply to in January 09 that will accept students with pre-reqs in progress? This is a career change for me and I am not getting any younger..I just want to be done with Nursing school so I can start working...lol....If you have gone this path please share your ideas. Much appreciated...

That's good to hear! That's one of the schools I will be applying to! ......and hopefully I will get in!

hi, same here im planning to apply there. how should the reference letter be done?

Specializes in Adult Stem Cell/Oncology.

I'm not sure about the format for the letters of reference... I'm going to an information session on August 13, so hopefully I will find out then. Or you could call the school and find out. I'm sure the information session will be very helpful, though!

Mister Simba - I am also registered for the Aug 13 info session. Are you applying for Spring 09?

I researched for a year to see which program would give the most credit for coursework I have already done, and Athabasca University gave me more credit than any other Bachelor in Nursing program.

I don't know if you're interested in online classes, but Athabasca University is accredited in the US and Canada. Extremely flexible-- if you over-estimate the courseload you can handle and get in trouble, you can request an extension.

The program offers a nice balance of ARTS and science courses, so you may get more credit: less $$$ and less time!! And you can start at the beginning of any month; there's no set start date. Check it out:

I'd be happy to answer any questions

do they offer any Accelerated BSN programs?

Check out UCSF School of Nursing, espcecially if you want to get a Master's too!

They have a MEPN program (Master's Entry Program in Nursing) for people who already have their bachelor's in non-nursing area.

UCSF has a GREAT program and they are VERY reputable in the community!

I went there and I would definitely recommend it!!!:wink2:

I checked, and it doesn't look like Athabasca has an accelerated program; sorry.

hi RN100 CALI!! wow congrats on graduating from UCSF!! What is your specialty? :)

Looking forward to hear from you!

thanks.. when you went there did they have any Kaiser scholarships/ I have been accepted and also have an interview at the university of arizona. If i get accepted there I have a decision to make. Really like the idea of a small school and have met on line many of my co-students already. Still I would have to move to l.a. and pay 1350 a month in rent. Arizona is all paid for down to books if you work for 3 years there and aparts are about 700-800 and the pay is 5 dollars an hour less. The Mount has a great rep. but then so does Arizona.. Very hard decision. I am in my 40's so do not want to come out owing too much but if I got a kaiser scholarship I could eventually move back home. Kaiser is right near me. Also I have heard that you do not exactly have to work in l.a. for the committment.. anywhere in southern ca. Thanks

Most if not all the CSUS acelerated program have been put in with the reg do to cut backs. Won't see many of them for a long time to come.
