LPNs can contribute to the plan of care in most states...Ive been an lpn for 6 years in nyc. I am being asked by my employer to do nursing care plans/treatment plans. Does anyone know if this is out of my scope of practice?
In some states, the LPN can initiate the care plan in the LTC/SNF setting if an RN such as the DON or unit manager signs off on them.
I just recently printed a copy this week for my reference. From what I have read, no, lpns aren't allowed to "develop" a nursing plan...but as Commuter stated I believe we can add on to it after its been initiated by an RN. It would help if the board wasn't sketchy with word use. For instance I'm still confused over whether or not I'm allowed to draw blood :/
I do the care plans here in Hawaii in Private Duty Nursing for my PCA clients and my other job in Psych Nursing I can start the care plan and treatment as well and its just basically starting a problem like Self Harm and then I check off that the nurse will do daily body checks, something simple like that.
