Can my job be taken away from me?

Hi everyone, I'm still new to this but I have a question. I was just offered a job at a hospital as a patient transporter, Im 21 weeks pregnant, I just took my physical and I told them that I was pregnant, they didnt seem to have a problem but can they take away my position before I even start?

I'm going to go against the grain and say that anyone's job can be 'taken away' at any time during the first 90 days of employment, and for any reason that the employer sees fit. After the first 90 days has elapsed, the workplace will only be able to terminate the employee through 'just cause.'

NOTE: no employer is going to be straightforward and admit that they terminated a person's employment due to issues surrounding a pregnancy. They'll claim that the termination arose due to some other problem.

Yep. The gospel truth. They make it plain that we (the employer and employee) have a mutual agreement (terms of my employment) and pretty much either side can end it. Their situation is more complicated because of federal and state laws, their HR department would probably be vague about it and throw dust in the air. The problem with laws that supposedly protect us is that someone has to enforce them.

I agree that if they terminate you within your probationary period, it will be for different reasons than your pregnancy.

My manager doesn't know what happened during my pre-employment physical, only that I got a green light from the PA. Maybe it's the same at your place of employment. Why not call and ask what details are shared with the hiring team?

Unfortunately, you need to work a year full time before you qualify for FMLA(which covers maternity leave). The company might go above and beyond and give you the leave, though. Check with HR.
