Can I process my immigration and registration with CARNA simultaneously ?

Published

Hi,

I am a registered nurse with 3 yrs diploma and planning moving to Alberta along with my spouse. Presently I am preparing my docs for submitting to CARNA for registration. Meanwhile I have checked the self assessment for immigration and feel that we can qualify for immigration as well.

Our goal is to get the PR as soon as possible so that my spouse could start his higher education as a local student. I know that immigration takes alot of time as compared to getting registration and license with CARNA.

can anybody please guide me if we can process immigration and registration with CARNA simultaneously ?

Secondly, having work permit, after how much time I can apply for PR and how much time it takes for getting it ?

Before starting this thread, I have already searched alot for similar thread already on the forum but could find any. Please let me know if anyone has information about it.

thanks.

There is no reason why you can not be processed simultaneously. PR route generally takes longer so not sure which country you are from but I know for the UK going the PR route takes approx 5 years and much easier to get a work permit and then change to PR once working in Canada. We have been in Canada since the end of March and getting ready to process out PR application

@Silverdragon

Thanks for your reply. We are from Pakistan and if it takes 5 years from UK then I guess it will be much longer from here.

Do you have any idea how much will it take to complete the process, i mean getting PR ?

is there any exact requirement about total work experience in canada after which you can apply for PR ? as in your case its only 5 months that you are preparing for PR.

by the way, Wish you all the best for your PR.

I personally think your quickest route is go through board of nursing process and get permission to sit CRNE, find a hospital for a TWP and then a few months after arriving and working in Canada apply for PR, usually process is a bit quicker if already in the country and working with an employer willing to offer you permanent and will provide a letter stating so. You can apply for a student visa for your husband at the same time you are applying for your TWP

thanks for your advise. I think it sounds logical.

Don't they allow spouse on TWP visa?

does my husband need to take admission in a university for applying student visa ?

No he has to submit an application with yours, all information is on the directions on completing forms. Although I am in Canada living with my husband he has the TWP because we decided to wait for me and I can not work or study without some sort of visa. One we have PR then I can do all sorts of things but not before unless I apply for my own visa. His (your husband) though as would be mine would be piggy backed on the main applicant ie you or my husband as in my case

Thanks for your prompt responses. its so kind of you...

what I understood is that dependent's documents will be processed along with the primary applicant but s/he will get the student visa unless he /she is eligible to apply for any other type of visa. isn't it ?

Now if my husband will be on student visa, Will he be able to work on it ? if yes is there any hours limit per week ?

what would be the validity of that visa ? is it renewable ?

is there any other way out if he don't want to come on student visa ?

This will tell you all you need to know about student visas and whether you can work or not http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/study/index.asp It appears they can work but will be restricted and have to apply for a visa allowing him to work. He could always get a work visa on your application but will be tied up with yours so if something should happen and you give up your work visa then he will loose his. This should help you with any other questions http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/work/index.asp
