What I have always always always wanted to become when I was a child was a nurse :redpinkhe:nurse::redpinkhe. I was always the curious one always was wondering what someone had when they where sick and always watched the health channel and still do. While in school I was never to good at math and not to good in science :uhoh21:. Currently I am going to school to become an R.N just because that is what my career choice is I am just worried that the science part of it and the math part will get in my way of what I want to do . Did anyone else feel this way:confused:? Just worried thats all.

I was horrible at math all through grade school and high school, but once I got to college I was VERY determined. Math was a struggle for me, but I put everything into it, and I actually got an A in both the math classes I took. Science, on the other hand...do you mean like physiology stuff? Again, if you actually read the material, listen in class and do practice questions you should get the hang of it, just don't give up and you will be fine. If you have any questions about specific things, this board is a great place to come and ask questions! Good luck, I wish you the best!:D

Absolutely! I too always wanted to become a nurse. I fought it for many years because I didn't feel it was a field I chose, but one that one chosen for me. It took a little maturity to realize that I love nursing and I can't believe it took me so long to finally start down this path. I was a CNA for over 12 years because I didn't know if I could handle the math and sciences.

I was lucky to get a very anal chem teacher who bored everyone else in the class except me because I was finally 'getting it'. I still had to stay up late to study, but took home an A. After that, I knew I could do it.

Math is part of nursing, but don't let it hold you back. Get a nursing drug calculation book and start now! I still use my book and I just finished 3rd semester. The book I use is very easy and takes you step by step. The name of the book is Clinical Calculations with applications to general and specialty areas by Kee/Marshall by Saunders. We are tested in math every semester and you will not be alone in your struggle. The majority of our class groans when we get those worksheets to practice before the test.

If you really struggle, consider taking just one course at a time. It will no doubt take you a bit longer, but you'll only have to concentrate on learning one thing at a time. That's what I did for the most part. Good Luck! You can do this :wink2:

Well I never truly had a problem in science class just was not interested while in high school. I am very interested in Anatomy now

I too have struggled with math.

I have had low confidence in my ability's especially in Algebra. This semester I took a Medical Dosage class and I would have to say that I cruised through that class with an A. The math that we did was so applicable to the nursing process and the drugs that it felt so natural. I was really surprised that I was doing so well.

I had never felt that way EVER in a math class.

When subjects like that apply to what you really want in a career, you find a way to apply it and it makes sense to you. It really is amazing how you can just get it.

I started Algebra 2 this last semester and I have a B so I am still really trying to get things rolling but it has been a challenge. I will say however, when you really want something you will surprise yourself!

 While it may be true that not all people are cut out to be a nurse, I think the true test is if you have Heart.:redbeathe If you have compassion, desire, love, truth, spunk, a smile, honesty, willingness to learn, adapt and many other things, YOU will be a great nurse! We are required to "know and learn" certain subjects not many of us enjoy or excel at. But if we have to be taught the before mentioned things, please don't be a nurse. I hate math, I love science. For me, it is like finding something in the body that is not working like it should and I have to learn not only how it works, why it works only in absolute certain ways, so I can try to fix it. For me, that is how I look at math. You are already doing the hardest part. You have comitted your life to do this. You are already on your way to being a great nurse. Smile at yourself, YOU WILL DO THIS and you will be good at it! :bowingpur This is the best site for any type of nurse, an CNA, student, LPN, RN, etc., there are so many people who are great teachers here to help everyone!

I graduate in Aug. I wish YOU the best. Don't think of yourself as the little engine that could, you are the little engine THAT DID! :nurse::lol2: :D

You could have been posting about me - I was terrified that I would never make it through the science and math portion, but I chose to believe in myself and do the best I could. I ended up getting an A in my algebra class and in my Pharmacology class (where we did most of our nursing math). Anat and Phys were AB and B for me and I felt like I learned alot even though it was hard. If you have the desire and the heart, you can find a way to get through this and do great. Good luck!

I felt the same exact way. I was never good in Science and completley suck in math but with a lot of studying and hard work I made it. You will do it if you put your mind to it and you really want it. Good luck!!

Thanks to all your replys really you guys are really giving me the boost of confidence that i need.
