Hi Everyone, I am a LPN and my father in law has a URI and md put him on doxycycline since this is really the only antibiotic he is not allergic to. He has had bad side effects with anitibiotics/other medications in the past like Bell's Palsy, irregular HR, kidney failure. He is allergic to Levaquin, z-pak, penicillin, sudafed, tramadol, erythromycin, ceftin (put him in kidney failure 2005), NSAIDS, marolides and ketolides. The pharmacy and md have said to him Doxycycline really is your last option. Does anyone else know of any other medication that he can possible look into. He has a lot of medical issue like ulcerated colitis, left bundle branch block and much more. He is worried if this doesn't work what other options does he has. I am still researching but figured I would put this out there and see if anyone else has some ideas I can look at. Thanks so much for your help in advance!

I never heard that either. No one is perfect and even older nurses aren't always great. All I can say as a new nurse I try my best and hope to get better and better and maybe one day be "great".

You def need thicker skin for this career. U can do everything right and still get a comment like that. Sometimes you just can't please everyone. As for your skills, your still in school utilize the skills lab while you still can, also get a book on how to do procedures and skills. That might help. Good luck and stop beating yourself up.

I have 40 patients on my shift and sometimes its hard to get a cuff around their arm. I usually do manuals but sometimes I have to use the wrist one. If it seems high I always recheck manually. I'm the only nurse with only 2 aides so it gets crazy at times.

Ltc is def not the answer. They are always understaffed and a lot of patients. I'm a new nurse also and they just threw me in and its either sink or swim. I have 40 patients on my watch and I'm the only nurse with 2 aides. I usually work over nights so the 40 is ok still hard but ok. But then I get stuck working 7-3 after just doing 11-7 and still by myself with a few more aides. It's crazy. Everyone makes mistakes that's just how it goes. Learn from it and just keep going.

Wow! So happy to hear she is reporting it. That is so unethical in so many ways. People need to think before they do things and except the consequences of their actions. Please keep us posted. Boston I'm so sorry for your loss and what that nurse did was insane! I hope she gets the max punishment!

What bp cuff would you recommend to get. My job prefers manual but a lot of the nurses use a wrist one. I have a big pt load and manual ones just take long to do sometimes. There are electronic ones at my job but they don't always work and I would prefer to have my own. Please help and thanks in advance!
