Although posing nude does not violate any nurse practice acts - it is a fact that employers will do internet searches to find out who they are potentially employing. Your photos could hurt your prospects. There are ways you can have them removed, and I would recommend you pursue that avenue - they may haunt you for years to come, as you already know by what has happened to many other people: nurses, actresses, politicians, etc, etc, etc. Your concerns are well founded. I am always amazed at what people post on the internet and then are surprised that 'the entire world' has access to it!! It used to be called 'the world-wide web'.

With all the response to this issue. I have just really realize how much again as being a nurse we have sacraficed in the way of freedom. we lost are freeedom of expression, as in the nurse expressing feelings about an inmate a few weeks ago on facebook and she got fired. Freedom of the press, in fact the press don't want any skinny on the negative side of hospitals and healthcare, except the political end of it. I begining to feel like nursing is a hostile enviroment. Does not seem like very many nurse feel their employment is seccure, or is it just the way I'm looking at it? also in the news there is some politican who posed for a magazine when he was younger and he still got elected. But perhaps there is a double standard for the people who are running out country?

:crying2:Sadly , yes. Look around , what is happening ? Greed and profiteering is all that matters. There is no connection among us. Some are so blatantly rich , and the other side , some are so poor and do not even have the basic necessities....while the rich side justt want to have more money , big cars , big houses etc............... this is disconnection. this won't last long otherwise humans will become extinct. There are still a few rich ones out there helping the needy , such as Gates, Angelina, and a lot more. ( Thank God for these people)

We need to change our consciousness, our sympathy and understanding and revamp mainly our priorities.

No you saw what it really is. Hopefully things will change soon.... for the benefit of all mankind and of course mother earth.:nurse::redbeathe

but to the situation at hand...

see this bon newsletter article.

pa license renewal: are you guilty of a crime of "moral turpitude"? dui, drug crime

since you brought this issues here, it might be wise to have pics moved to private viewing ...don't want any ammo for disgruntled employee or employer to bring to boards attention if concerned about maintaining your license.

this clearly applies only to criminal offenses (i.e. prostitution) of which the licensee was charged with. so, even if someone found it and took it before the nursing board, they wouldn't have a case, as nude modeling is not a crime (once you're 18). depending on your state's employment laws, your employer may have grounds for termination, but it sounds like it probably won't be an issue if you've been employed 4 years already. by now you've hopefully demonstrated your professionalism and skill in the workplace, negating any negative light a disgruntled co-worker might try to paint you with.

I work at a level 1 trauma center in Texas. A very conservative state. Not only can they deny you a position based on the photos, but our hospital can even fire you if they come up later. I was photographed in a hosptial t-shirt in the local paper in a story connected with beer drinking and came very close to losing my job. Ididn't even have a beer in my hand, I was by a river on a cross-country run. If not for my clinical manager going to bat for me and a 5-year solid work history, I'd have been thrown to the legal department. The MD in charge of trauma services thaought it was hilarious, and still kids me about it from time to time 8 years later.

Not a thing you can do about the photos. The past is the past. Go forth in your carreer. Be the best nurse you can be. Make yourself invaluable and that will be you best protection. Chances are the photos will never surface. The web is a very big place.

Playboy Nov 1983 did a pictorial on "Women in white" (internet search) the cover has a nurse on it with the traditional headdress . They were suppose to be real nurses. I wonder if they were branded and never got to pursue their nursing careers?. As for this nurse who started this thread with her concern I am sure it was more for the money than a desire. She is most likely a very nice looking lady who needed to make ends meet and, if I could make money just wearing a bathing suit or God forbid in my natural I would not hesitate. We all are just trying to make ends meet. I guess I live in a glass housse so I am not going to throw any stones..

I think most people can differentiate between art and advertising photos and "Girls Gone Wild" rubbish and would only question someone about the latter since it usually involves alcohol and/or drugs.

While you might eventually run into a stone prude of a DON and be refused a job, I can't see that it would threaten your license.

Besides, in 20 years or so, no one will ever know that was you and probably won't believe it if you tell them.

I think you are asking the wrong question - how can anyone actually PROVE that it is you in the images rather than just a surprising resemblance?

Unless your supervisors have proof, what could they do anyway?

Plus these days with Photoshop - the image could have been tampered with anyway. (OK it wasn't - but do you need to admit that?)
