I take it, and I dare anyone to tell me I can't, so long as I have a script. I've dropped over 20 pounds, and they would have an uprising on their hands if they tried to ban it where I work, about a dozen women that I work with (that I know of) have gotten scripts of their own after they saw my results. I only take a half as well, had to cut back, as I was losing too fast.
Let us know how you do.
And for the one who said diet pills were banned, they won't know if you don't tell, right?
My employer specifically stated "no diet pills" in the drug policy. I don't know if it's just my hospital, but I would love to kick start my weight loss, especially since I gained 60 pounds during nursing school. Good luck to you.
Does is specify whether they're speaking of OTC vs prescription diet pills?
I only ask because, a prescription med is a prescription med. The reason it's taken is between the patient and the prescriber. As long as an RN isn't impaired due to the med.....it seems none of the business of an employer.
I take 5mg amphetamine 2x a day to be able to focus. As a student nurse I was told by the professor that I'm chasing my tail. I was asked why I'm bouncing off the wall. If I won't allowed to take it THAT IS WHEN I'll have a problem doing my work efficiently.
How can they ban a specific drug if it is only helping?
There should be no reason why not - even prescription narcotics are often ok when prescribed by an MD. I took adipex for a few months, did a great job decreasing my appetite. I started having shortness of breath at rest and as a precaution, my MD took me off it. Unlikely that it was related, but just to be safe - I believe adipex WHEN COMBINED with other weight loss meds can lead to pulmonary hypertension. Just fyi . . . it did make me jittery, but I definitely don't regret taking it.
