Can I get my BSN any faster?

Nurses General Nursing

Hi! I am currently deciding on colleges to get my nursing degree. I am graduating high school soon, and will start in the fall. I have the option of either attending a community college to get my ADN and then work while getting my bsn. Now, I think that may be kinda stressful, so I am leaning toward going to a university to get my BSN right away. I have been accepted already to the two universities I've applied to and a part GPA scholarship to one. My eventual goal is to become a PEdiatric Nurse Practitioner, but with all this talk about all the programs going to Doctorate for nurse practitioners, I want to get my undergraduate degree as soon as possible! Ya know what I mean!=) lol So, basically I'm wondering if I go to a 4 year university to get my BSN, are there any ways I can get it done faster? Like, can I take summer classes or something?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Hey Akanini,

What would you base that on to get an ADN instead of BSN right now, and why would it be different in 3 years?

What I meant by that is you're just coming out of high school so you are FRESH. Three years from now, you may have a WHOLE different aspect on this. You might not even like nursing, you may have other personal ideas on your mind besides school. My mom and grandmother are nurses and pushed me at 18 and I graduated from college with a BA in something else. Nursing is my 2nd career.

My advice to you is DON'T wait tooooo long. However, if you have the opportunity to get into an Associates program RIGHT AWAY, DO IT!! It's EASIER to get into a BSN program once you have obtained the RN license ALREADY.

O.K. Thanks! I appreciate that, but I think I'm still gonna go for the Bachelor's program right away, because I've already gotten accepted to the two I applied to; and I even got a scholarship to one of them! I totally understand about how things can change in life, but we'll see how it goes! I'm just gonna roll with the punches. =)

You have to do what's best for you. I wish you all the best in your program and since you got that scholarship, YOU BETTER go there. That's another thing, you don't need students loans. I have none and don't want ANY. Keep us updated on this thread.

ALL THE BEST!

Thanks again! I should have clarified that it's not a 100% full scholarship, but I agree about loans. Congrats that you don't have any!!! I don't want any either! lol hopefully financial aid and grants will cover me for the rest! FINGERS CROSSED...
