PLEASE , I need help. I have never been in college but preparing to start this coming Jan. of 2007. I really really want to go into the nursing program, but i have many barriers and dilemas. I am 22 with to boys 6 and 8 , no supportive family what so ever. I make minium wage and cant even really get a babysitter now to work full time. Sometimes i have to risk leaving the boys home alone in order to work. I have been studying up on nursing and KNOW this is somthing for me. What i dont know is if i can do it academically. I want this so bad , but iv been told that it will be impossible for me. Is this true , do i need to look into another profession? Im not so worried about studying at home a whole lot because my boys are very well behaved and understanding. They are actually my only support.
They get excited when i say im going to college. But is there a way to be sure of success without going crazy first? Please , i need some real honest advice. I need to be able to go into school focused on what i will leave with. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
I would only do one class at a time, that's for sure. I have three young children and work full time -even with a husbands help it is not easy. Kids come first. If you have problems with child care that needs to be #1 priority. So if your classes are daylight, when are you going to work, in the evening? & When will you see the children? & Study?
I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just aware of how difficult it can be. Take it SLOW. I would not try to take a a full time class schedule, work and still do all the mom stuff. Are you kids in pre school, or sports, dance, play dates etc.? All that mom stuff is time consuming. All that nursing stuff is time consuming too. See if you can do one class at a time.
Man , i have tried all of that. What my problem is , is that i dont have and cant afford a car and live in a state where pubic transportation is limited. I live in WV and out here , public transportation wont even get me to where all the good jobs are. I mean its really rediculous out here.

Here is a link to some some LPN programs in West Virginia. You can also look up RN programs on the website if that is your heart's desire. I wish you all the best.West Virginia Practical Nursing (LPN/LVN) programs from All Nursing Schools
Cheers! :paw:
It sounds like you have a difficult situation, but I know that if you really want this you can find a way to make it work. I can't give you more advice than some of these great ladies already have.
I called the nursing program admissions office today at our local cc to get the admissions requirements for nursing school. They will call me back with the information. I really want to know what to expect. I'm just starting school in January after being out for 11 years and it's difficult, but I really want this.
I'm reading up on nursing now and my MIL was a LPN for many, many years before her health made her give it up. She loved it!!!
Just take it one class and one problem at a time and you'll get there.

Irene Joy gave GREAT advice. Even if it takes you ten years to get your degree, you'll be SO GREATFUL you did ten years from now! Don't get discouraged by waiting lists (2 months before I was to start my classes, I was told it would be at least another year before I would get in) and if you don't have all the details ironed out as far as getting child care for your children, TALK TO OTHER STUDENTS! Once you start going to classes (even just taking the pre-requisite classes), you'll find other single parents probably in the exact (or almost exact) same shoe's you're in.
