Can I appear for RN exam or do i have to go to school

Hi I am a doctor from an asian country but do not practice medicine here in states as wasnt able to study for mle due to family requirements.But now i am able to study part time and want to get inot med field but dont want to go for doctor license as it will take long time,wait,money but i can take the RN exams though.

What i wanna knw is can i directly give RN exam on the basis of my medical degree (dr's degree) or do i have to go to school for that???

If i can give exams what is needed

Also do you have legal stay in the US ie work permit? If not then you will be affected by retrogression and not be able to adjust once you have completed and met requirements plus Pass NCLEX

You are required to complete an approved program in a school of nursing to be able to even sit for the required licensure exams in any country.

Having the MD after your name does not permit you to waive these requirements.

There is a program that is offered in Russia that would take you just a year to complete and it is accepted in the US, but almost all of the others in the US will require that you complete a two year program.

Please be aware that with immigration the way that it is now, if you do not already have a visa that will permit you to stay and work in the US, getting the nursing degree here is no longer a guarantee that you will be able to remain here after you finish your training.

Also be aware that nursing in the US is quite different from what you expect it to be, and very different from the nursing that you have seen in your country.
