I graduated in May and pass my NCLEX exactly one month ago. I started applying the day my license was posted on the BON using the resume I worked on while in school. A few of my classmates already received job offers from the same hospital I've applied to. I was starting to get discouraged. Last week, I reworked my resume and composed a cover letter template to include when applying for jobs. Since then, I've had 2 interviews (both with a LTC facility) and just today I received an email for a phone interview with the hospital a few of my classmates already got jobs with. So I would fix up your resume to make it stand out from others. And I really think a good cover letter will help as well. Good luck!
I actually googled cover letters and found some examples. I even went to the library and checked out some books on how to write killer cover letters. The 1st paragraph is to let the reader know why you are writing them. Example... I am writing in response to the job posting for the RN position posted on monster.com. I am a new grad from XYZ college and recently obtained my license... Blah blah. 2nd paragraph is to sell yourself. What do you have to offer. Why you think they should hire you. 3rd paragraph is your closing... Thank you in advance for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you. I can be reached at 123-456-7890. Hope that helps.
