Can you get into CRNA school if....

Nursing Students SRNA

Hey, I'm wondering if it's even possible to get into CRNA school if you do an online LPN to BSN program? Or would the CRNA schools think you are less prepared or have had less rigorous schooling? It's my understanding that the associates RN programs near me have waiting lists, but the LPN programs are less competitive to get into, so I'm thinking of getting the LPN first, then doing an LPN to BSN program while I work. But I don't want to do it if it will inhibit my chances of getting into a CRNA school.

Have any of you done this or do you know anything about it?

Thank you.

from everything i have read it should not hinder you at all. schools seem to not care how you got your BSN, they just want you to have one. Just do well in school, get your BSN, get your ICU experience, and then you should be well on your way!

I think some schools are picky (not about BSN's, but the overall picture) whereas others are not. Read the admission criteria for the schools in your area. That alone will tell you a lot about what they are looking for.

I personally think the path you're thinking about will probably get you a BSN, however, to learn everything you have to learn in anesthesia you need some solid background. An online degree may provide you with a BSN, but how are you going to take GRE's, and a pre-req advanced chemistry courses and do well with an online degree?

Now, if you think you can make it through advanced science classes with an A+ and get an excellent GRE score (to name a few) with an online background, then it should be pretty easy for you to get into any ASN or BSN program. The online thing may seem easier, but I don't think it will be in the long run.

Another thing to look at is getting hired in an ICU they are going to hire BSN from a College or University before someone with an online degree. I am not sure how strong the clinical experience you get from an online program.

All of the online programs I have heard about make you perform clinicals either during or after the class room materials. As long as it is an accredited university, then it will come down to the interview. A new nurse can definately get a job in an ICU, but it may depend on your hospital. You might have to consider moving to get the experience you want or work your way up from a med-surg or PCU.
