While looking for a way to become self employed or at least move away from traditional bedside care/med pass jobs, I came across cde. I work with a lot of diabetics already at a nursing home. Could being CDE be a way to work as self employed one day and move away from the traditional nursing jobs? Thanks. I think this could be a very interesting career.

I think you should be able to do that as a CDE. Check out certification and more information on the AADE and NCBDE website

I’m a CDE but I work for a hospital they bill out my services. To work open up own shop You’d need to know how to bill insurance companies, medicaid, Medicare , or hire someone,Need an NPI number,
I don’t know how to do any of those and sounds like a hassle so I’d only do cash or credit. Just make sure you keep track of income because come tax time need to report it. Good luck

I would look into Liability Insurance and make sure you can find a company that will insure you.
At least 2 years of experience working under the qualifying profession (not required to be in diabetes) the 4 years preceding application. What does "not required to be in diabetes" mean??
1000 hours of diabetes education within 4 years, with 400 hours completed in the preceding year (NOTE: UQP requirement differs). In what role can you have provided the 400 hours? How do you prove this?
