can canadian LPN's work in OZ or NZ?

Published

Hi! I am just wondering if Canadian Licensed Practical Nurses can get jobs in Australia and/or New Zealand (for 6mths, 1 year, or indefinately)..or do you have to be a Registered Nurse?

Thanks!

hi, i'm a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario.. and I emailed someone from the nurse on holidays website, and he told me that there isn't an exact match to RPN/LPN in Aus, but if you currently have medication competency then you could be an endorced enrolled nurse? EEN is the term there.. We did medication as part of our program at school so he said it would be fine, and we'd be more employable than EN's, which are enrolled nurses who don't give out medication.

i could be off a little bit, but that's what I understood from the email :)

You would need a visa to allow you to work.....only Registered Nurses are on the skilled list short supply, so you would have to apply for a working visa....think there is one for commonwealth countries and if you are under 35 something like that but look around this site for visa's

p.s. Many of uor Enrolled Nurses already give meds and from July 1st will only be called Enrollled Nurses no EEN. Our new national registration will have three catagories RN's RM's and Enrolled Nurses some will have the tag not endorsed or something like that ....to give medication and it is now a diploma course.

Here is our new National registration board website starting to get things together...this will begin for most states on the 1st of July.
