I am currently in the middle of writing an essay on child development, but I am a bit puzzled, I am not sure what theorist should focus on for the socio emotionl development for an infant aged one month to one year. Has anyone got any suggections I would be most grateful. Thanks

sounds like a job for a pediatric nurse? To be honest with ya Sam, I have no clue. That book stuff on child development and theorist, kinda went out the window after the first 6 months on the job.

sorry pal,

Rick

Hey sam! Are you familiar with Erickson's 8 stages of development? He talks about central tasks that are completed during each stage of development. For example, in infancy, it is trust vs. mistrust with the task being learning to trust others. Erickson was the one theorist they pounded into our heads all through school. Maybe see what info you can find about this?

Cognitive Development: Piaget

Psychosocial Development: Erikson

Psychosexual Development: Freud

Sam,

Paget, in addition to Erickson, is someone who had theories abt child dev. He and E are similar but have significant differences, if you're gonna dig into that realm. Also, just for curiosity's sake, compare Freud to the others. We've come a long way, baby....

I think this is an Erikson question but I agree with those that mentioned Piaget. I think the popular author who makes Piaget the most accessible is David Elkind. If you have young children or are thinking about meeting the needs of young children, you should read David Elkind's _The Hurried Child_.
