Can anyone help an OCC student?

Published

I'm finishing my pre reqs for the nursing program at OCC and would very much like to get my foot in a hospital environment before I enter the program...which will be at least two years before I get in.

I've looked at nurse aide jobs and most hospitals require training for this. I don't know where I would receive that training from. If anyone has any information for me I would greatly appreciate it.

Or if anyone will be finishing the pre reqs and think they will be in the program 2008...I'm always up for making new friends!

What state is OCC in? Your best bet is to have this post moved to that state's forum, which I would be glad to do for you.

Hello,

I'm finishing up my last pre-req classes as well at OCC, and plan on applying to the nursing program...I'm hoping to get in for fall of 2007, but I guess it won't be until 2008

Quick question, have you taken the math test? I need to take it and was wondering how it was - is it just like the practice tests?

Take care,

I too was taking pre-reqs @ OCC last year and now I live in Arizona. The wait for nursing school out here is less than in Cali but here I am finally done with all my pre-reqs and WAITING...

Anyways, I got my foot in the door at age 18 starting out in admitting/registration at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach. Basically you can apply to any hospital, and you don't need any experience. I worked there gaining customer service skills and general medical terminology for a year and a half. I always had an interest in working in the ER so I transferred to admitting in the ER at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo. After working there for 6 months (the minimum req'd to transfer to another position) I moved up to a position of an ER Tech. I've been working as a tech for a year and a half now and love it! You gain so much clinical skills pretty much doing everything nurses do except start IV's and give meds. After talking with several RN's, PA's, and MD's, they've all said I'll be ahead of the game when the time comes to start the nursing program. I highly recommend anyone interested in going in the program to at least get some hands on experience ahead of time. You'll get a good idea if nursing is what you really want to do, as well as learning skills that will help you through the program.

Hope this helps!!:nurse:
