Calling all southwest tn comm. College spring 2012 hopefuls!!!

I know it's a bit early, but I intend on applying for the evening/weekends program at SWTCC Spring 2012. I have a gpa of 2.75, 143 on nln, and an A in ap2 and B's in micro and ap1. Is there anyone on here that has been accepted to the program during a spring semester.. heard it's more competitive vs fall sem!!?? What are my chances???:uhoh3: Thanks

I e-mailed Mary Vines and she told me we would find out the rest when we do orientation. I think that's a little crazy considering that's not until the 6th. We will have just a week to get our kits that they haven't told us about, sign up for classes and get our books. Also, how r we supposed to try on our uniforms before we buy them when they have told us to order them now? From other forums I have looked at, this is not the way they have done the Spring semester in the past. The only thing that the packet says we are supposed to pay for at orientation is the $25 for the student government nothing about anything else. It also looks like now they want us to buy the kit from flag staff. I don't know about anyone else, but I am really confused.

im also confused and if anyone has already ordered their background check did you add the student badge? I cant decide if I need that or not.

I'm very confused as well. They didn't explain anything. They do appear to be doing things differently then what I have been told from previous semester. For example, they used to let you register when you pick up your acceptance packet but that's not how they're doing it now. I hate we have to wait until a week before school starts to know what our schedule will be. I need to know to let my work know what my new schedule will be.

@Maddie's Mommy Orientation is on the 5th, not 6th.

Thanks @sjmann90. Typo on my part on the date. I knew that the nursing program by itself was going to be stressful, but I didn't think this part would be!

I was equally confused because when I picked up my packet no one said anything about registering or having uniforms ordered.

When I started NS, registration occurred through permits that Mrs. Vines will send to each student through their SW email. I don't know why it has to be this way, it just is. The time when packets are picked up is when you let them know what schedule you want, but that is not the time of registration, only stating your preference. Most of us didn't get our permits until a few days before classes start. Just be patient, everyone one except one person that I know of got the schedule they asked for. As far as the kits, my class and all the classes before us had to purchase the kits from the bookstore, which cost around $95. The bookstore is told by the nursing dept. how many to order and when they will need to be picked up by the students. I can't comment if that policy has changed because I don't know. I will say that the stethoscopes included in the kits are not that great, IMO, but the rest of the equipment was fine. I purchased a better stethoscope and have not regretted it once. The nursing office will have samples of uniforms for everyone to look at when you go to orientation. Everyone will be in lab clinic the first few weeks learning how to take vital signs and do physical assessments so you will all have a little time to get those ordered and received before they will actually be worn for clinic. Really, everything everyone want to know will be answered in orientation. I remember what it was like at this point, so many questions!! If anyone wants to private message me with any questions, I will be glad to help.

When we picked up our packets they didn't ask our schedule preference. They just gave us our packets and told us everything we needed to know was in the acceptance packet and the rest would be covered in orientation. I would love to PM you, but am unable to do so yet. Thank you for your help.

Has anyone found a CPR class? I only found one class available on the Red Cross site and it was $110 I'm hoping I can find something cheaper. Does anyone know if online classes are acceptable?

I found a CPR through American Heart Association. Half is online, then you do a practical in front of an instructor. The first part is $38 but it does not say how much the second part is.

Kimi Meza is a wonderful route to go with trying to get BLS certified. She does the class one on one at her home in Collierville and you are finished with everything in about 3-4 hours. She is awesome!!!! Her phone number is 901-854-7140. She only charges $50. You will not be disappointed.

I have so many concerns with orientation/registration being so late. I'm worried about child care, my pell grant, and ordering uniforms!! I was hoping that the nursing department would be easier to deal with but apparently not. Thanks nikkih901 I will be giving Meza a call. I'm so glad i found this forum. It's nice to know that im not the only one utterly confused and you all have been so helpful!!
