Calling all Southwest Tennessee Community College 2012 Fall Hopefuls

Published

The deadline to apply is February 1, 2012. How many are applying? I thought I would start a thread so we can all wait together, and get to know each other. I finished my special application today and will turn it in tomorrow at the start of the spring semester. Good luck to everyone!

First of all, buying the books from the bookstore at southwest is a rip off in itself. Amazon allows you to sign up for a one month free trial of AmazonPrime, which is FREE two day shipping on books that have amazon prime next to them (all the books I bought were amazon prime eligible) I bought ALL but one of the nursing books, including the study guides, and paid a total of maybe, 570$. All of them were brand new, the most expensive one was the Pharmacology book at 101.00$. All my books where here in 3 days and all in one box. I'd suggest you try that instead of paying an extra 200-300 for the bookstore price. All in all, it was about 10 books or so I bought.

The list of the books we need are under the book information link that is shown when you click on the Foundations CRN#.

oh i would NEVER buy books from a bookstore. they are out of their minds if they think students can actually afford those prices. ill look at that link Jeshica so thanks! and i also have the amazon prime. I LOVE IT

Can anyone that is in the program for the fall semester tell me a little about the possible clinical hours/sites? I went to the Nursing building, and the secretaries were pretty helpful but didn't really give any "specifics" :)

all i know is they are either fri sat or sun and they are 9hrs the first semester of nursing then they are 12hrs everysemester after. they can be anywhere and you dont find out until its time for you to go

Wow.. So classes are during the day on weekdays and clinicals are on weekends?

Yes for those accepted in the fall. If you are accepted in the spring you will have night & weekend classes

That is surprisingly a relief for me! Thank you for all your help.

ok monday im ready! i have done everything i needed to do, unless they decide to give us another shot to go get, a titer read, extra books, or some other supplies for clinicals.

hows everyone feeling? nervous, anxious, excited? i for one cant wait to see what this is all about. i have heard so many things from different nursing students. i really think if your organized and have good time managment with studying well be ok. there is no way its as bad as everyone makes it seem.

I am also ready to get started. Hopefully, it won't be as difficult as everyone is projecting. I would not be as worried if I didn't have to work while going to school. But for me, quitting my job is not an option.

i wish i could just go to school and not work too but reality wont allow that. fortunatly i have put off having children so i dont have that to worry about.

anyone bought shoes? landau has some comfy ones for $40, they are the landau brand.

I went to Landau today and got my scissors and id badge clip. I had already gotten my stethoscope and bp cuff from Identity Factor in Bartlett/Cordova. Landau didn't give me a discount :-/ but it was only like $12. I am so excited to start classes Monday! What's everyone's schedule? Mine is MT 9:45-11:45 & W 3-5 I also have a Sunday clinical. Which a friend of mine said that last year the Sunday clinicals were at The Med and Meth University? So I guess we'll see! I haven't gotten my uniform yet but I was going to wait since we have until October to get them.

Im also MT 9:45-11:45 but R 9:45-11:45 with Friday clinical. Im excited and a little nervous!! All of my books won't be in until Tuesday though :( Kind of bummed about that. And you may want to order your uniform soon. It takes them a minute to come in. I put my order in last week and it is scheduled to arrive 9/17.
