The deadline to apply is February 1, 2012. How many are applying? I thought I would start a thread so we can all wait together, and get to know each other. I finished my special application today and will turn it in tomorrow at the start of the spring semester. Good luck to everyone!
when you go to sign your acceptance letter, that's all you do. you will be given a packet that tells you everything you need to have done. your orientation won't be until a week before school starts. some of those books on that link are study guides, which you won't really need. the only book you will need for the 1st test is the "
berman, a., snyder, s., kozier, b., & erb, g. (2008). fundamentals of nursing: concepts, process, and practice. (8th ed.).upper saddle river, nj: pearson education inc. (isbn 0135045541)". you don't really use the pharmacology book at all. i opened it maybe 2-3 times. you will just use your drug guide book from clinical. it is a lot of books but you will use all of these books throughout the entire program. you will only have to buy 1 or 2 extra each semester.
I wonder if we could go sign the package today even though some of us are scheduled for Friday?? My inpatients are kicking into gear again! lol!!
Olivia, it was honestly a waste of gas! The lady was rude to us because we were waiting outside the annex building and apparently they told us the other building around the corner (NOT)! All you go up there for is to get a packet with 5 papers in it they could have mailed to us easily, then we signed a piece of paper saying we accept the nursing school spot. That was it.... I wasted 10$ gas for 10 minutes of paperwork. Also we did not get to register for classes, we will do so after orientation on August 16th, and we have to email the dean of nursing with the CRN's of the classes we want to take to get the permits.... It's a first come first serve basis....
Lol It did feel like a waste of time and fuel! Not to mention they didnt tell me anything about emailing crn's to the dean... ??? So thanks for that info! They only told me that we would be able to register at orientation. And also the package says we will find out about all of our uniform stuff a week before school starts..? Dont get me wrong, Im very thankful to be in but the other posts from past semesters seemed a bit different from what we are doing now
It is confusing about which building to go to our first time. The annex building is always locked and you only go there for clinical skills lab the 1st 6 weeks, before you go to the hospital. You should of received a paper with a order form for the uniforms from flagstaff. You only really need to buy the polo from Flagstaff since it is embroidered with a Southwest logo. You can buy a white lab coat from anywhere and buy the $3 patch from Flagstaff and have it sown on the jacket. It just has to be sown on to the the outside upper left arm. The pants form Flagstaff have an elastic waistband and fit horrible. You can buy the white scrub pants from anywhere too, but they are strict about them not being real see through since they are white so make sure you get ones that are a little thicker. You won't need your uniform until 6 wks into the semester when you officially go to the hospital, so don't stress over that. If you want to look at the uniform stuff, you can go to https://www.flagstaffuniforms.com/html/schools_SWTN.htm If it asks you for a username and password, southwest is username and tennessee is the password.
You will only need a stethoscope, sphygmomanometer (blood pressure cuff), and a pen light right away. You can buy these from anywhere as well. They will mention a blue skills bag that has all of that but a lot more. Don't buy it!! It's a waste of money and you be provided everything else that's in the bag during clinical skills lab.
Mrs. V***s, the head of nursing department, will talk to you at orientation and will explain everything about emailing her to get your permits for registering. It is first come, first serve, so I went to the nursing computer lab right down the hall and emailed her immediately after orientation. So did everyone else, but I managed to get the classes I wanted.
I know this is going to sound stupid, but what are the crn's that we are supposed to email to the dean? I wasn't given any information about any requirements to be completed.
They are the numbers that are in front of the course when you look them up on registration, it will be like 57324 Foundations.

youre cutting it kinda close only because they need all your transcripts, which can take a couple weeks sometimes (mine did bc i had a few different schools on there) but it doesnt hurt to try. i would call the admissions office. they are very nice and helpful there. i have never spoken to anyone who was rude there =) and ive call ALOT. i swear they know my voice by now ha ha. nope no testing at all. i did my application online so i could check the status of it every step of the way. you should see if they can rush your transcripts overnight or wutever. if your bachelors is a science background that helps and the fact that youre done with ap 1 and 2. good luck!!
