Can any of you with South University experience please provide me with information about the competence of the instructors? I am in the middle of applying and think I have been accepted for the Geriatric NP program now am hesitant about the competency of the instructors. I learn quite well but really want to grow in the geriatric field. I am not sure if this school would be best. Any feedback would be appreciated.

OP: The issue with South's NP program is not specifically with the the quality of their instructors, it is with just about a zillion other things. To wit:
1. Just about everyone "gets in."
2. Very high attrition rates. (They are about numbers)
3. EDMC-parent company, not doing well financially, (this may put your graduation prospects in jeopardy). As a for-profit company, they delisted from the stock market in 2014. Their stock today is worth 1cent per share.
4. They are owned by Wall Street firm of KKR. Not known for their dedication to nursing education.
5. As a for-profit, they spend a lot more money trolling the net than on student educational instruction.
6. In November of 2015, EDMC paid a $95.5 million dollar fine after being sued by the Department of Justice for false claims involving student recruitment.
7. They do not help you in any way via (contractual or "good will" relationships in the community) to obtain the five preceptors you will need at the final third of the program. Other schools do, such as medical, PA and other NP schools. This puts you at an incredible disadvantage. So congratulations getting in, I suppose.
* All of the above documented on the web through authoritative sources. Everyone should practice extreme caution when selecting a school. I am on no one's payroll and relay this documented information to my present and future colleagues gratis and without reservation.
And know, all schools are not the same.

I have 2 friends I went to nursing school with who attended the program and graduated. They had nothing but good things to say about there experience. When I was looking for a program, South is one that I looked into. I spoke with the admissions rep and sent all required documents to apply, but I also applied to other programs. Within a week I was accepted and the admission rep started pressuring me to start. I informed him that I needed time to make my decision. I was called over and over until I finally told the admission rep I would not be attending. I'm so glad I didn't go.
