So I'm an RN on the job hunt here in Miami which is a super competitive market. I've applied to several hospitals over the course of a month and got a few rejections but everything else is just pretty much a waiting game. So my question is if it's a good idea to call HR about applications submitted? I would like to be more proactive but I've heard it's not always a good idea and could negatively affect your chances of getting a position and I really don't want to take that chance. I don't have any work experience other than volunteering so I'm not sure how to go about things the proper way and I'd like to learn. Any advice?

Most of my classmates who got jobs (myself included) realized that the online application process is flawed. We would ut in an application and then right away it would say "not under consideration" on the application status Quite a few of us got dressed well and started taking our resumes to nurse managers on the floors where there were openings. Most of us who did that got interviews and a large percentage of us got jobs. They told us in school NOT to do that, but at least in this area, it worked!

It is appropriate to follow up after a week as long as they do not state "no calls" or something of the like. Also, you might try reaching out to nurse managers directly. People will tell you not to do this, also, but, I found it to be successful. Good luck!
Congrats RN403! What kind of unit are you working on?
Thank you, scaredsilly! Currently working ortho and loving every minute of it. Learning something new everyday! :)
I am L&D and I am learning something new daily as well. What a great profession! I have the world's most awesome preceptor, and I am nervous, but not terrified of my first shift alone.
